HP Surestore Bridge FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/1 HV Installation and Operations Guide

80 Setting Up Serial Port Communications Chapter 4
Setting Up Serial Port Communications
Leave the bridge turned off until you have set up serial port communications
with your host computer, unless serial I/O was previously established and is
currently running.
The bridge is designed to communicate with a terminal or any operating
system utilizing a terminal emulator. For example, Windows 9x and NT
4.0 operating systems can use Hyperterminal. Be sure the baud rate, data bits,
stop bits, parity, and flow control are set correctly.
To set up serial communication with the bridge:
1. Plug the serial cable provided with the bridge into one of your computer’s
serial ports (for example, COM1 or COM2) and the bridge’s serial port.
2. Start your terminal interface program.
3. Set the terminal interface program to use the appropriate COM port.
4. Specify the following settings for the port:
5. Connect the power cord.
6. Power-on the bridge.
Note Before powering on the bridge, make sure all Fibre Channel and
SCSI devices are powered-on and have finished performing their
self-tests. This will help determine if device mappings are
working correctly.
