1 Installation overview and requirements This chapter provides an overview of the HP Systems Insight Manager installation process, and it identifies the system requirements for a Windows CMS, a managed system, and a network client. First time install process overview Perform these steps for a first time install of HP Systems Insight Manager on your Central Management Server: 1. Install and configure the Central Management Server.

An Oracle database administrator (DBA) must set these services to be restarted when the server is reset. 2 Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the first time Preparing the system These steps are for a clean installation of HP Systems Insight Manager on your Windows system. If a previous version of HP Systems Insight Manager is installed on your system and you want to upgrade your data, see Upgrading HP Systems Insight Manager. This procedure verifies that your system meets the minimum requirements and prepares your system for installation. 1. Install and configure the CMS.

If you have the unsupported HP Insight Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE) Windows Client software A.03.95 or older, installed on your CMS and you wish to install HP Insight Remote Support Advanced, then you must remove the ISEE client software first. The two cannot run on the same CMS. To remove ISEE, complete the following: a. Select Start→Settings→Control Panel→Add/Remove Programs. b. Select HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition Client from the list of installed programs, and then click Change/Remove.
NOTE: HP does not recommend running server deployment with MSDE installed and HP Systems Insight Manager with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3 on the same server. NOTE: Click the selection box in the upper-right corner of any dialog box to view the HP Systems Insight Manager Installation and Configuration Guide, ReadMe or Release Notes. 8. Click Next. The System Inspection window appears. The system is inspected for a previous version of HP Systems Insight Manager and a local database.
NOTE: HP Systems Insight Manager supports SQL Server and Oracle databases on Windows platforms. This feature enables support for a local or remote database hosted on an IPV6 enabled machine. However HP Systems Insight Manager does not support IPV6 addresses. You must enter a hostname in the Host field. Select from the following database options: 9. • Install and use SQL Express — This option enables you to install and configure HP Systems Insight Manager to use SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3.
The following installation options are available: • Typical install — Select this option to install the included components with minimal user interaction listed under the Available Components for Install. If a component is listed as not available for installation on the CMS, then the HP Systems Insight Manager install shell has determined one of the following: • The installation prerequisites for the component have not been met. • A newer version of the component is currently installed.
NOTE: 2. This user account is used to run the HP Systems Insight Manager service. Enter the password for this account. Click Next, the Summary window appears with the components that are to be installed. NOTE: The Insight Remote Support Manager component places a shortcut on the CMS desktop to the HP Software Depot where you can download HP Insight Remote Support Advanced.
Insight Remote Support Advanced on your CMS, you can opt to not use the shortcut or you can deselect this component by performing a Custom Installation. 3. 4. Click Install to initiate the installation process which installs all products listed in the Selected Components table. The Status window appears. As each component is being installed, it states In Progress beside the component's name. After the component has installed, it states Installed Successfully.

After registering or clicking Register Later, the Installation complete window appears. For a fresh install, the following message appears For this new install, an operating system account must be created and configured in the System Management Homepage on this computer and each HP Version Control Agent must be configured to use the new account.
6. The reboot option is presented on this screen. The Yes, reboot the system now option is selected by default. Click Finish to allow the system to reboot. This completes the typical installation process. For more information, see “Next steps”. 3 Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager At this point, step 1 below is complete. Perform step 2 to configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment by using First Time Wizard or proceed to “Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager using the Options menu”. 1. Install and configure the CMS. The procedure to complete this step is in Chapter 2 “Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the first time”. 2. Configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment.
NOTE: This page only appears if you selected to manage a Windows system. • Privilege Elevation Enable privilege elevation if, on HP-UX, Linux, and ESX managed systems, you are required to sign in as a non-root user and then request privilege elevation to run root-level tools. • E-mail Enter the e-mail settings that the CMS will use to send e-mail notifications. You can set up Automatic Event Handling tasks that prompt HP Systems Insight Manager to send e-mails when the CMS receives a specific event.

To add authorizations, select Options→Security→Users and Authorizations→Authorizations, and then click New. 5. Configure email settings An email setting enables users to receive email notification of certain events. To configure email settings, select Options→Events→Automatic Event Handling→Email Settings. 6. Configure paging settings. Paging settings enables users to receive pages to notify them of certain events. To setup paging settings, select Options→Events→Automatic Event Handling→Modem Settings.
4 Setting up and configuring managed systems At this point, steps 1 and 2 below are complete. Perform step 3 to install and configure the required management software. 1. Install and configure the CMS. See Chapter 2 “Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the first time”. 2. Configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment. See Chapter 3 “Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager”. IMPORTANT: You must run Discovery before setting up managed systems.

Setting up managed storage systems Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) is a Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) standard that enables interoperable management for storage networks and storage devices.
5 Installing HP Insight Remote Support Advanced The HP Insight Remote Support Advanced software is integrated with HP Systems Insight Manager and provides comprehensive remote monitoring, notification/advisories, dispatch and proactive service support for nearly all HP servers, storage, network, SAN environments and selected multivendor devices. HP Insight Remote Support Advanced is targeted to larger networks, data centers, and mission critical or business critical support levels.
Guide for more detailed configuration information. Both documents are available at www.hp.com/go/ insightremoteadvanced-docs. HP Insight Remote Support Advanced installation process HP Insight Remote Support Advanced software is not bundled with HP Systems Insight Manager.
6 Upgrading HP Systems Insight Manager This chapter provides the steps to upgrade HP Systems Insight Manager 5.2 and later. Before beginning the HP Systems Insight Manager upgrade, verify that your user name and password to access the database are valid.
NOTE: Click the selection box in the upper-right corner of any dialog box to view the HP Systems Insight Manager Installation and Configuration Guide, Readme, or Release Notes. 5. Click Next. The System Inspection window appears. The system is inspected for a previous version of HP Systems Insight Manager and/or a local database. During inspection, if HP Systems Insight Manager detects any incompatible plug-ins, an advisory displays.
The database information of the existing HP Systems Insight Manager install is pre-populated. All information except for the user account cannot be edited. Provide the correct password for the existing account or provide the credentials for another user account with administrative rights and database access. The installation tests for the administrative rights. Click Next to proceed. • Use SQL/SQL Express.
Server 2005 Express Edition SP3. If the Vulnerability and Patch Manager database upgrade fails, a message displays indicating Failed to Upgrade Vulnerability and Patch Manager Database to SQL Express, but the HP Systems Insight Manager installation continues. 7.

Click Next, the Software Selection window appears. This window displays the complete list of the available components with a checkbox next to each one. If the checkbox is selected and disabled, the component is deemed a mandatory component and cannot be cleared. The amount of required disk space is also listed for each component.
In the upgrade mode this option is ignored; the installer does not install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3 on the local server even if set true. The database information of the existing install is used. NOTE: HP Systems Insight Manager automatically upgrades MSDE to SQL Express 2005 SP3 even if the tag is set to True or False. Provide the database user account information from the existing HP Systems Insight Manager install.
The installation or upgrade status of HP Systems Insight Manager and selected components are logged in the HP Systems Insight Manager.log and silentstatus.xml files. Both files are created in the root of the system drive. Data migration The data migration tool is a command line interface tool that you can use to migrate configuration data from an installation of HP Systems Insight Manager 5.3.x or later to a new installation of Systems Insight Manager 6.0 running on another CMS.
NOTE: The import process deletes any existing data from the target CMS as the import proceeds. IMPORTANT: If data import fails for a component, the component database may lose its data, and the component may become unstable. HP recommends that you take a snapshot of all databases before proceeding with the import. The snapshot can be taken by running the export operation on the target CMS, or your user specific backup method. If the import fails, the database may be recovered from the snapshot.

7 Uninstalling HP Systems Insight Manager From the control panel, use the Add/Remove Programs feature in Windows, and complete the following steps to remove HP Systems Insight Manager and its dependencies: NOTE: it. Select HP Systems Insight Manager, and click Remove. If you want to uninstall HP Systems Insight Manager, click Yes.
8 Configuration options Several configurable parameters in HP Systems Insight Manager that are not available from the GUI. These parameters can only be configured by editing a configuration file on the CMS. NOTE: All HP Systems Insight Manager parameters have been set to predefined values that are appropriate for most situations. These parameters should only be changed if you are experiencing issues with the default values.
must use some other means to protect an unattended session from illegal use, such as password-protected screen savers. Active time-out policy The active time-out policy only keeps sessions alive if the user is actively using the GUI, such as clicking on links and buttons. Display and refresh of the banner is not sufficient to keep the session alive. The user is timed-out either by inactivity, closing the browser, or navigating to another site. The default time-out period is 20 minutes.
Implementation Changes made to the log.properties file do not take effect until the log manager daemon or service is restarted. Restart the HP Systems Insight Manager service. CAUTION: The queue size should be changed only with extreme care. If the queue is set too high, the log manager consumes too much system memory. NOTE: When the Audit Log file reaches the maximum file size, the log is renamed with MX_LOGROLLFILEEXT extension and a new file is started.
To configure task results using the HP Systems Insight Manager interface, select Options→Task Results Settings. For more information, see the HP Systems Insight Manager help system. To configure the short and long task lifetimes manually, edit the globalsettings.props file. • The long lifetime defaults to 30 days. To change that time, edit: MX_JOB_MAX_COMPLETED_JOB_AGE=30 • Task results for frequently scheduled tasks start to drop off after 10 instances.
9 Database installation Install and use SQL Express Install and use SQL Express. This option enables you to install and configure HP Systems Insight Manager to use SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3. Procedure 9-1 Install and use SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3 1. 2. 3. From the Database Configuration window, select Install and Use SQL Express. In the Username field, the installing user account appears and can be edited. The account specified must be the user name for the database server.

Enter a name in Global Database Name, for example HPSIM, and then select Next. Select Dedicated Server Mode, and then select Next. Select Memory→Custom, and then select Next. Select Character Sets. Select Use Unicode (AL32UTF8), and then select Next. Select Next. Select Finish, review the options, and then select Okay. The schema will take approximately 10 -15 minutes to create. 12.
7. 8. 9. In the JarFile field, enter the full path to theojdbc14.jarfile or click Browse and navigate to the correct location, typically C:\oracle\ora92\jdbc\lib. This path must be accessible through the file system on the CMS. The installation copies the file to the correct location. In the Host field, the local host name appears and can only be edited if you are performing a fresh install. Click Next. The Select Installation Type window appears.
10 Custom installation Custom install Procedure 10-1 Custom installation 1. Click Next, the Software Selection window appears. This window displays the complete list of the available components with a checkbox next to each one. Select the components you want to install.
NOTE: This user account is used to run the HP Systems Insight Manager service. 3. Click Next. The Summary window appears. 4. Click Install to initiate the installation process. This process installs all the products listed in the Selected Components table. The Status window appears. As you install each component, it states In Progress next to the component's name. After the component installs, it states Installed Successfully. Install System Management Homepage: 5.
a. The System Management Homepage Setup window appears. The InstallShield Wizard guides you through the install of System Management Homepage. Click Next. The Operating Systems Groups window appears. NOTE: If at any time during the install of System Management Homepage you click Cancel, the installation and setup of the System Management Homepage ends. b. c. Select Administrator, Operator, or User from the Operating Systems Group Name field.
4. Verify the certificate information. If you want to add this certificate to the Trusted Certificate List, click Accept and the certificate is added to the Trusted Certificate List, or click Cancel if you do not want to add it to the Trusted Certificate List. The Trusted Certificate List appears. Click Next. NOTE: You can add an unlimited number of trusted certificates. NOTE: To delete a certificate, select the certificate, and click Delete. The selected certificate is removed. 5. 6. 7.
you might want to use Trust All if you have a secure network, and everyone in the network is trusted. NOTE: You can add up to five subnet IP address/netmask pairs. NOTE: If you click IP Binding but do not specify the IP address/netmask, then you might not be able to connect to the System Management Homepage. The IP Restricted Logins window appears. The IP Restricted Logins window enables you to select specific IP addresses or IP address ranges to include or exclude from gaining login access.
a. b. On the Welcome to the OpenSSH Services Setup Wizard, click Next. The Select Destination Location window appears. Setup installs OpenSSH into the following folder C:\Program Files\OpenSSH. To change the location, use the Browse button. Click Next. The OpenSSH Service Log On As User window appears. Enter your account password. The User name and Domain fields are populated. Although these fields are populated, you can change these values to specify any user you choose.
more information about HP Insight Remote Support Advanced, see Chapter 5 “Installing HP Insight Remote Support Advanced”. 9. Install the HP Version Control: a. When the HP Version Control Setup window appears, click Install. The HP Version Control Setup Repository Directory window appears. b. Select the directory from which HP Version Control will retrieve support pack information using the Browse button. This directory must be manually created later if it does not exist. Click OK. Click Next.
11 Silent installation Silent install Installing HP Systems Insight Manager from the command line with an .xml file. The option to perform a Silent install is available through a command line installation. A silent install occurs when setup.exe is launched with the command line options for a Silent install. Execute: setup.exe –s “” –svcpw “” –dbpw “” A silent.xml file resides in the same directory as setup.exe.
When installSQLEXPR is set to TRUE, dbOracle should be set to false. The dbDomain and dbInstance parameters should not be set (left blank). dbOracleJARFile - must be specified when using an Oracle database. This is used to provide the location of the JDBC driver to be used to connect to the Oracle database. For example, c:\ojdbc14.jar Provide a valid local or domain user account which is a member of the local admins group.
12 Troubleshooting Installation Sign-in Password Migration logs 12.1 Installation 12.12.1.1 12.12.1.2 12.12.1.3 12.12.1.4 During the HP Systems Insight Manager installation on Windows Vista using a user who is member of the administrators group, when I click Next, an error displays indicating there are insufficient rights to the database. Disable the User Account Control (UAC) for the user and continue the installation.
12.12.1.8 12.12.1.9 Windows Vista has been identified as Unmanaged after I used a standard account which is a member of the Administrator group. You must use the local Administrator account on the Windows Vista system. To be identified as Desktop in HP Systems Insight Manager, you must turn off UAC. The Service Account Credentials page displays the user name as "undefined" after upgrading Windows XP to Windows Vista and then upgrading HP Systems Insight Manager.
If the disk image has already been deployed, perform the following to remove the image from each target system. ▲ In NetWare: The Globally Unique Identifier information is stored in a 16-byte file on the sys:\system subdirectory of the NetWare server. This file is created and populated with the Globally Unique Identifier when HP Systems Insight Manager performs an SNMP SET command to the NetWare server. To remove the permanence of the Globally Unique Identifier, delete the file \system\cpqbssa.
Procedure 12-5 Limit local account use of blank passwords 1. 2. 3. 12.12.2.2 Open Local Security Settings MMC Application by selecting Programs→Administrative Tools→Local Security Policy. Open the Local Security Policies folder, and then open the Security Options subfolder. Disable the policy. I cannot sign in to HP Systems Insight Manager on Windows XP. If using a blank password, see the preceding problem.
NOTE: By using IP addresses instead of names, you might encounter security alerts, if the name in the managed system certificate does not match the name in the link. The default certificate for managed systems uses the system name, not the IP address. Reason 2: For managed systems, the privacy policy setting in Internet Explorer 6.0 blocks the authentication cookies from the managed systems. Solution 2A: (Recommended) Remove the systems from the Internet Zone.

12.12.2.12 can be resolved and is reachable from the CMS. You might need to reconfigure network or name service settings on the CMS. After installing HP Systems Insight Manager, I changed the Windows administrator password and can no longer sign in to HP Systems Insight Manager. If you have SQL Server installed locally, verify that it is running. If it is not running, verify the logon credentials. The service login credentials could have changed.
12.3 Password 12.12.3.1 I am unable to sign into HP Systems Insight Manager. Solution: Make sure that the HP Systems Insight Manager service is running. To verify whether the HP Systems Insight Manager service is running: Go to My Computer→Manage→Services and Applications→Services→HP Insight Control. To start the HP Systems Insight Manager service: Go to My Computer→Manage→Services and Applications→Services and right-click the HP Insight Control service and select Start.

Glossary A administrative rights user A user who is authorized for the All Tools toolbox on all systems, including the Central Management Server. This type of user has been given special privileges to administer the HP Systems Insight Manager software. administrator A user who manages users, resource pools, and self-service requests through HP Insight Orchestration console. agent A program that regularly gathers information or performs some other service without the user's immediate presence.
certificate An electronic document that contains a subject's public key and identifying information about the subject. The certificate is signed by a certificate authority (CA) to bind the key and subject identification together. See also certificate authority. certificate authority (CA) A trusted third-party organization or company that issues digital certificates used to create digital signatures and public-private key pairs.
critical status A state generated when HP Systems Insight Manager can no longer communicate with a managed system. custom tools Custom tools are tools that can be created by the user to run on the Central Management Server or on target systems. For example: • Remote tool A tool that runs on selected target systems. It might copy files to the target systems or run specific X-Window applications on the target systems. You can schedule this tool. • CMS tool A tool that runs on the CMS.
enclosure A physical container for a set of server blades. It consists of a backplane that routes power and communication signals and additional hardware for cabling and thermal issues. It also hosts the CPU or server power supplies. event Information sent to certain users that something in the managed environment has changed. Events are generated from SNMP traps. HP Systems Insight Manager receives a trap when an important event occurs. Events are defined as: • Warning. • Informational. information.
HP Insight Control power management An integrated power monitoring and management application that provides centralized control of server power consumption and thermal output at the datacenter level. It extends the capacity of datacenters by enabling the user to control the amount of power and cooling required for ProLiant servers. Built on ProLiant Power Regulator Technology, it extends new server energy instrumentation levers into HP Systems Insight Manager for greater Unified Infrastructure Management.
managed systems Any system managed by HP Systems Insight Manager, such as servers, desktops, storage systems, and Remote Insight Boards (RIBs). management agent A daemon or process running on a managed system. It receives and executes requests from the Central Management Server on the managed system. management domain A collection of resources called managed systems that have been placed under the control of HP Systems Insight Manager.
O Onboard Administrator The Onboard Administrator is the central point for controlling an entire c-Class enclosure. It offers configuration, power, and administrative control over the rack, and its associated blades (Compute Servers), blade management processors (iLOs), network switches (depending on the models of switches used) and storage components (such as SAN or SATA). The Onboard Administrator is a single management processor, with shared resources to an optional backup twin processor for failover.
HP Insight Remote Support Advanced The HP Insight Remote Support Advanced provides proactive remote monitoring, diagnostics, and troubleshooting to help improve the availability of HP-supported servers and storage devices in your data center. The Insight Remote Support Advanced reduces cost and complexity in support of systems and devices. The Insight Remote Support Advanced securely communicates incident information through your firewall and/or Web proxy to the HP Support Center for reactive support.
Secure Shell (SSH) A program to log in to another system over a network and execute commands on that system. It also enables you to move files from one system to another, and it provides authentication and secure communications over insecure channels. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) A standard protocol layer that lies between HTTP and TCP and provides privacy and message integrity between a client and server.
Single Sign On Permission granted to an authenticated user browsing to HP Systems Insight Manager to browse to any of the managed systems from within HP Systems Insight Manager without re-authenticating to the managed system. HP Systems Insight Manager is the initial point of authentication, and browsing to another managed system must be from within HP Systems Insight Manager. single-system aware (SSA) A run type that does not support multi-system operations.
system health status system identification system information This is aggregate status all of the status sources (which can be SNMP, WBEM, and HTTP) that are supported on a target system, with the most critical status being displayed. The following are the different system health statuses that can be displayed: • Critical HP Systems Insight Manager can no longer communicate with the system. The system was previously discovered but cannot be pinged.
system status panel The section of the GUI on the left of the screen that displays status information and system or event alarms. system type One of 12 supplied types. You can add your own based on one of these types. For example, use Server type to create MyServer type. It is still a server and is reported on in the same way, but it has your designation.
U uncleared event status Events that have a Critical, Major, Minor, Normal, or Informational severity and have not been cleared or deleted from the database. Events can be cleared without being deleted from the database by using the Clear events menu option. • Critical. • Major. A failure is impending. • Minor. A warning condition exists that can escalate into a more serious problem. • Normal. • Informational. A failure has occurred, and immediate attention is required.
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) An API in the Windows operating system that enables you to manage and control systems in a network. workspace The section of the GUI where tools appear. X X client An application or tool that appears on an X server. X clients can also be called X applications. X server A local application that accepts X client requests and acts on them.
