Understanding HP SIM's Federated Search Architecture

6
The Federated CMS Configuration tool retrieves the CMS SSL certificate from the remote CMS
(Figure 4).
1. The Federated CMS Configuration tool contacts the remote CMS.
2. The remote CMS returns its certificate.
3. You view and accept it, and the certificate installs on the main CMS.
Figure 4: The Federated CMS Configuration tool retrieves the certificate from the remote CMS.
Next, you must update the remote CMS to accept the main CMS security certificate (Figure 5).
1. Enter your user name and password.
2. The Federated CMS Configuration tool installs the main CMS certificate on the remote CMS.
3. The remote CMS writes to the certificate trust store.
Figure 5: You update the remote CMS.
Mutual secure authentication between the two CMSes is established. You repeat the steps to add
another CMS to the federation.
Performing Searches
The main CMS performs role-based real time queries. To search remote CMSes, you perform the
following actions:
1. Specify which CMSes to search. The default is all CMSes (Figure 6).
2. Specify the search criteria and initiate the search (Figure 7).
