Insight Control Data Center Edition
During the installation of Insight Control Data Center Edition, a MS-DOS prompt might appear. This prompt
is a normal part of the installation process and only appears briefly. Do not manually close this window.
Installation
The HP SIM installation might hang at the database initialization step for a long period of time on Windows
Server 2008. However, the installation might have been completed in the background. Verify by browsing
to the HP SIM UI. If you can successfully browse to the UI, exit the installer manually and restart the system.

After removing HP OpenView Configuration Management Agent with Add/Remove Programs, a subsequent
install of HP SIM shows RSSWM as being installed. Removing HP OpenView Configuration Management
Agent with Add/Remove Programs is not sufficient to remove RSSWM. To avoid this issue and properly
remove RSSWM, click Start→Programs→Hewlett-Packard→Remote Support Software
Manager→Uninstall Remote Support Software Manager.
If you first remove HP OpenView Configuration Management Agent with Add/Remove Programs before
running the Start menu link, the Start menu link might fail to remove the remainder of RSSWM. Subsequent
HP SIM installations show RSSWM as being installed and will not reinstall it. To work around this situation,
open the registry by running regedit.exe, browse to the following registry hive
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hewlett-Packard\RSSWM and delete the AGENT_VERSION key.
This causes subsequent HP SIM installations to see RSSWM as available for installation.

During a custom HP SIM installation, RSSWM lays down core components and then runs a configuration.
If you cancel the configuration after RSSWM core components are completely installed, but before the
configuration is complete, subsequent HP SIM installations will not reinstall RSSWM. You must configure
RSSWM by clicking Start→Programs→Remote Support Software Manager→Initialize Remote Support
Software Manager. This is the same step you perform to configure RSSWM if it was installed through a
typical installation of HP SIM.

The HP SIM installation might not complete successfully on a Linux system with an exceptionally long host
name (near 63 characters).

If the Remote Support Software Manager component installation fails with an unhandled exception in
java.exe message attempt to exclude the java.exe executable from the Data Execution Prevention
Settings, and then reattempt to install RSSWM from HP SIM.
To exclude RSSWM's java.exe from Data Execution Prevention Settings, perform the following steps:
1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
2. Select the Advanced tab and click Settings under Performance.
3. In the Performance Options window, select the Data Execution Prevention tab.
4. In the Data Execution Prevention tab, select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except
those I select.
5. Click Add.
6. In the file browser, browse to the following location below the HP SIM installation root:
SWMAgent\lib\jre\bin\java.exe
, and then click OK.

The HP SIM installation does not support the special character { in the currently logged on user name (-the
installing user). The installation will not register the CMS as an SSH client, and the database initialization
will fail.
