1 Installation overview and requirements This chapter provides an overview of the HP Systems Insight Manager installation process, and it identifies the system requirements for a Windows CMS, a managed system, and a network client. First time install process overview Perform these steps for a first time install of HP Systems Insight Manager on your CMS: 1. Install and configure the Central Management Server.

NOTE: Oracle 10g and 11g use the same JDBC driver version 10.2.0.4. You must install the Oracle JDBC driver, version 10.2.0.4. You can download this driver from the Oracle website at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/ index.html. All Oracle Database Versions list the JDBC driver as ojdbc14.jar. You must select the correct file under the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4) JDBC Drivers section. Even though the files are listed as ojdbc.
• HP Integrity VMs do not support running an application at the same level as the host. • The required Windows service packs must be installed for each of these operating systems. • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is only supported if HP SIM is running on Windows Server 2003. HP SIM 6.2 installs on SQL Express 2005 SP3 and HP SIM 7.1 installs successfully on SQL Express 2008 R2. During an upgrade from HP SIM 6.2 to HP SIM 7.

2 Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the first time Preparing the system These steps are for a clean installation of Systems Insight Manager on your Windows system. If a previous version of HP Systems Insight Manager is installed on your system and you want to upgrade your data, see Upgrading HP Systems Insight Manager . This procedure verifies that your system meets the minimum requirements and prepares your system for installation. 1. Install and configure the CMS.
Procedure 1 Verify and prepare system 1. 2. Verify your system meets the minimum requirements. For details, see “System requirements” (page 5). Install the required Windows and Microsoft SQL Server Service Packs. NOTE: If you are using a remote SQL database, leave the default as Master to insure that all necessary databases are created with correct permissions. 3.

For more information, see “Typical install” (page 30). • Custom install - Enables you to select the components you want to install and to use non-default values for each component. For more information, see “Custom install”.
8. Click Next. The System Inspection window appears. The system is inspected for a previous version of Systems Insight Manager and a local database. After the system inspection is complete, the Database Configuration window appears.
NOTE: Systems Insight Manager supports SQL Server and Oracle databases on Windows platforms. This feature enables support for a local or remote database hosted on an IPV6 enabled machine. However Systems Insight Manager does not support IPV6 addresses. You must enter a hostname in the Host field. Select from the following database options: • Install and use SQL Express—This option provides you the facility to install and configure SQL Express database which is also bundled with SIM.
9. The Select Installation Type window enables you to select your preferred installation type. The following installation options are available: • “Typical install” (page 30) — Select this option to install the included components with minimal user interaction listed under the Available Components for Install.

The Domain and User name fields default to the installing account credentials and these fields can be edited. NOTE: 2. 30 This user account is used to run the Systems Insight Manager service. Enter the password for this account. Click Next, the Summary window appears with the components that are to be installed.
3. 4. Click Install to initiate the installation process which installs all products listed in the Selected Components table. The Status window appears. As each component is being installed, it states In Progress beside the component's name. After the component has installed, it states Installed Successfully. After all the components are installed, click Next. The Registration window appears. Register Systems Insight Manager or click Register Later.
5. 32 After registering or clicking Register Later, the Installation complete window appears. For a fresh install, the following message appears: For this new install, an operating system account must be created and configured in the HP System Management Homepage on this computer and each Version Control Agent must be configured to use the new account. 6. The reboot option is presented on this screen. The Yes, reboot the system now option is selected by default. Click Finish to allow the system to reboot. This completes the typical installation process. For more information, see “Next steps” (page 33). NOTE: For more information regarding where the HP System Management Homepage default settings are stored during a Typical installation and how to change them, see the HP System Management Homepage Installation and Configuration Guide at http://www.hp.

41). Next, complete the initial setup of Systems Insight Manager. Initial setup involves adding managed systems, adding users, setting up authorizations, and configuring event handling. • For details about installing and configuring the HP Insight Remote Support Advanced, see “Installing HP Insight Remote Support” (page 45).
3 Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager At this point, step 1 below is complete. Perform step 2 to configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment by using First Time Wizard or proceed to “Configuring Systems Insight Manager using the Options menu” (page 39). 1. Install and configure the CMS. The procedure to complete this step is in “Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the first time” (page 24). 2. Configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment.
• Credentials: System Automatic Discovery Sets the sign-in credentials and the SNMP credentials for the Discovery task. • Configure Managed Systems Configures managed systems as they are discovered, by configuring WBEM and WMI, SNMP, SSH access, and trust relationship. • WBEM/WMI Mapper Proxy Retrieves managed system information on Windows systems, enters the mapper proxy system host name and port number. NOTE: • This page only appears if you selected to manage a Windows operating system.

Operating-system-specific reports The following reports are specific to HP-UX and are added or removed depending on whether HP-UX is selected or not.
NOTE: Users that have been added to the CMS cannot view or manage systems until authorizations have been configured for them. NOTE: HP-UX and Linux-provided command line tools, such as ls and df, are run as root by default. For security reasons, run them as a specific user to avoid permitting unintended capabilities to a user. To add users, select Options→Security→Users and Authorizations→Users, and then click New.
4 Setting up and configuring managed systems At this point, steps 1 and 2 below are complete. Perform step 3 to install and configure the required management software. 1. Install and configure the CMS. See “Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the first time” (page 24). 2. Configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment. See “Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager” (page 37). IMPORTANT: You must run Discovery before setting up managed systems.
NOTE: You must have selected to install Insight managed system setup wizard when installing HP SIM. Using the Insight managed system setup wizard requires the System Setup toolbox authorization in HP SIM. Authorize the System Setup toolbox on the CMS to allow use of the managed system setup wizard. Authorize this toolbox on each managed system that will be configured using the managed system setup wizard. • To run Configure or Repair Agents, select Configure→Configure or Repair Agents.
For example, if two CIMOMs exist on the same host, you must configure them to use different ports to communicate with the CMS. Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager to discover storage systems After verifying that each storage system's SMI-S provider is installed and configured, configure HP Systems Insight Manager to discover the storage systems. 5. 44 Enable all of the SNMP Alerts: iLO SNMP Alerts, Forward Insight Manager SNMP Alerts (if the SNMP agent is installed in the OS), and Cold Start Trap Broadcast.
5 Installing HP Insight Remote Support HP Insight Remote Support (RS) software provides hardware event diagnosis and secure submission of hardware event notifications to HP. Insight RS is optimized for environments containing up to 500 devices, and supports many HP servers, storage, networking and printing devices. See the HP Insight Remote Support Release Notes for a complete list of supported devices. HP Insight RS 7.0.x supports upgrade from previous versions of Insight RS, including the 5.
1. On the CMS, double-click the self-extracting .exe file that you downloaded from the HP Software Depot. After the files are extracted, the installation wizard launches and performs a prerequisite check. 2. If all of the prerequisites are met, click Next. If any prerequisites are not met, do one of the following: 3. 4. 46 • If the problem is a critical failure, exit the installer, resolve the issue, and then restart the installer.
5. Do one of the following: • To install Insight RS to the default destination folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\ RS\), click Next. • To install Insight RS to another folder, click Change, select a new destination folder, click OK, and click Next. NOTE: Changing the installation directory will only change the location of the program files. The data files, such as log files, will still be saved on the c:\drive. 6. Click Install.
NOTE: HP SIM versions 7.1 and later and Insight RS 7.0.5 support different versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. If you intend to synchronize Insight RS with HP SIM, make sure the Hosting Device operating system is supported by both HP SIM and Insight RS. Integration with HP SIM will synchronize devices and credentials from HP SIM to Insight RS. Service Events will synchronize from Insight RS to HP SIM.
6 Upgrading HP Systems Insight Manager This chapter provides the steps to upgrade HP Systems Insight Manager 6.0 and later. Before beginning the HP Systems Insight Manager upgrade, verify that your user name and password to access the database are valid.

Or click the Products tab, click Explore DVD, and then run setup.exe located at \HP Systems Insight Manager\win_ia32\ to launch the Installer. The Welcome to the HP Systems Insight Manager Installer window appears. HP Systems Insight Manager examines the system for local instances of Oracle, MSDE, or SQL/SQL Express.
During inspection, if HP Systems Insight Manager detects any incompatible plug-ins, an advisory displays. After the system inspection completes, the Database Configuration window appears. 6. For HP Systems Insight Manager 7.1 and later, SQL 2008 R2 SP1 replaces unsupported SQL Express.
The database information of the existing HP Systems Insight Manager install is pre-populated. All information except for the user account cannot be edited. Provide the correct password for the existing account or provide the credentials for another user account with administrative rights and database access. The installation tests for the administrative rights. Click Next to proceed. • Use SQL/SQL Express.
Procedure 10 Using Oracle 1. 2. 3. 4. From the Database Configuration window, select Use Oracle. Before using the database you must ensure the database: ◦ Uses Unicode character set of AL32UTF8 and national character set of AL16UTF16. ◦ The NLS Length is set to BYTE. ◦ Has an Oracle user with Database Administrator (DBA) privileges created for the exclusive use by HP Systems Insight Manager. ◦ The Oracle database schema is empty.

4. Click Install to initiate the upgrade process. This process installs all the products listed in the Selected Components table. The Status window appears. As you install each component, it states "In Progress" beside the component's name. After the component has installed, it states Installed Successfully. If you are upgrading the WMI Mapper: • On Windows Vista • On Windows 2008 • Where Windows installer 4.
NOTE: Upgrades of HP Systems Insight Manager using silent.xml does not support upgrades from HP Systems Insight Manager configured to an Oracle database. Provide a valid existing instance name of the existing HP Systems Insight Manager install. Provide the valid database name of the existing HP Systems Insight Manager install. Use default 1433 or provide a valid port. HP Systems Insight Manager service Information.
Data migration The data migration tool is a command line interface tool that you can use to migrate configuration data from an installation of HP Systems Insight Manager 5.3.x or later to a new installation of HP SIM 6.3 running on another CMS. The process leverages both an export and import tool to migrate the data. For example, you can use this tool to migrate a HP Systems Insight Manager 6.3 system on a 32-bit operating system to a HP SIM 6.3 installation running on a 64-bit Windows operating system.
Importing data from a CMS 1. Before data can be imported, the following requirements must be met: • All operating system and database level user credentials on source CMS must be created on target CMS. • Target CMS must have HP Insight Software 6.3 or later installed. • The CMS must be a clean installation and have no prior configurations. NOTE: The import process deletes any existing data from the target CMS as the import proceeds.
This CRA task is used to fix the target CMS and is not a scheduled task. The CRA task can be loaded after the migration completes and the HP SIM server is started. This task is disabled by default and must be enabled and properly configured with any required credentials, then run manually once. By default, the settings specified in the CRA Task XML are applicable to all the discovered managed nodes. A CRA collection is also created for the CRA task to run against.
To add the CRA Task and Collection, copy the HPSIMCRAQuery.xml and HPSIMCRATask.xml files to the /setup directory, and enter the following command: mxconfigrefresh Next steps After completing the import, sign into HP Systems Insight Manager, and run the Daily Device Identification task to ensure that all your associations are updated correctly. 7 Uninstalling HP Systems Insight Manager From the control panel, use the Add/Remove Programs feature in Windows, and complete the following steps to remove HP Systems Insight Manager and its dependencies. NOTE: If a registered plug-in is installed and dependant on HP Systems Insight Manager, HP SIM does not unistall it. Procedure 14 Uninstalling Systems Insight Manager 1. Select Systems Insight Manager and click Remove. If you want to uninstall HP Systems Insight Manager, click Yes.
8 Configuration options Several configurable parameters in Systems Insight Manager are not available from the GUI. These parameters can only be configured by editing a configuration file on the CMS. NOTE: All Systems Insight Manager parameters have been set to predefined values that are appropriate for most situations. These parameters should only be changed if you are experiencing issues with the default values.
Monitor time-out policy The monitor time-out policy keeps sessions alive, provided the user has a web browser window open displaying the Systems Insight Manager GUI. Closing the browser or navigating to another web page starts the timer for the time-out period. The default time-out period is 20 minutes. Users must use some other means to protect an unattended session from illegal use, such as password-protected screen savers.
Implementation Changes made to the log.properties file do not take effect until the log manager daemon or service is restarted. Restart the Systems Insight Manager service. CAUTION: The queue size should be changed only with extreme care. If the queue is set too high, the log manager consumes too much system memory. NOTE: When the Audit Log file reaches the maximum file size, the log is renamed with MX_LOGROLLFILEEXT extension and a new file is started.
Tools in this category have no task output, have task output that is saved outside of Systems Insight Manager, or have task results that are unlikely to be of long-term interest. Tasks for all other tools are considered long-term. Frequently scheduled tasks Task results can also be removed from the Task Results Page if a certain number of task results for a scheduled task accumulate. This setting defaults to 10 instances of a single task.
9 Database installation Install and use SQL Express Install and use SQL Express. This option enables you to install and configure Systems Insight Manager to use SQL Express. Procedure 17 Install and use SQL Express 1. 2. 3. From the Database Configuration window, select Install and Use SQL Express. In the Username field, the installing user account appears and can be edited. The account specified must be the user name for the database server.

Systems Insight Manager must be installed in an empty Oracle database schema.
10 Custom installation Custom install 1. Click Next. The Software Selection window appears. This window displays the complete list of the available components with a checkbox next to each one. If the checkbox is selected and disabled, the component is deemed a mandatory component and cannot be cleared. The amount of required disk space is also listed for each component. Select the components you want to install. NOTE: When installing WMI Mapper, you can enter the port value.

The HP System Management Homepage Setup window appears. The InstallShield Wizard guides you through the install of HP System Management Homepage.

From the User Access window, configure the HP System Management Homepage for the following access types: • Select Anonymous Access to enable anonymous access to unsecured pages. • Select Local Access Anonymous or Local Access Administrator to set up the HP System Management Homepage to automatically grant local IP addresses at the selected access level.
NOTE: You can add an unlimited number of trusted certificates. NOTE: To delete a certificate, select the certificate, and click Delete. The selected certificate is removed. 5. 6. 7. From the IP Binding window, select the Enable IP Binding checkbox if you would like to bind to IP addresses that match a specific subnet and mask. Click Next.
NOTE: The Trust All option leaves your system vulnerable to security attacks and sets up the HP System Management Homepage to accept certain requests from any server. For example, you might want to use Trust All if you have a secure network, and everyone in the network is trusted. NOTE: You can add up to five subnet IP address/netmask pairs. NOTE: If you click IP Binding but do not specify the IP address/netmask, then you might not be able to connect to the HP System Management Homepage.
The Summary Panel appears. The Summary Panel lists the location where the HP System Management Homepage is installed, the amount of space the installation requires, and the summary of the options that you specified during the installation. g. 11 Silent installation Silent install Installing Systems Insight Manager from the command line with an .xml file. The option to perform a Silent install is available through a command line installation. A silent install occurs when setup.exe is launched with the command line options for a Silent install. Execute: setup.exe —s path to silent file —svcpw service password —dbpw database password A silent.xml file resides in the same directory as setup.exe. This text file can be edited with any text editor.

Sign in to Systems Insight Manager using the Administrator account, and the icon is executable. After installing Systems Insight Manager on Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows Server 2008, the command window opens as a non-administrator, even if the user is an administrator if UAC is turned on.

critical status A state generated when HP Systems Insight Manager can no longer communicate with a managed system. custom tools Custom tools are tools that can be created by the user to run on the Central Management Server or on target systems.
