HP Systems Insight Manager 5.3 Technical Reference Guide

The License Manager core establishes and maintains a secure communication channel with iLO2 through
two options provided by HP SIM, SSL and SSH. Both, SSL and SSH meet the requirements for a secure
channel. If the target systems are iLOs, the iLO must support SSH and you must provide the required
credentials. An SSH based solution uses CLP. All iLO2 firmware releases include support for SSH/CLP.
Proliant SSH/CLP support is included in v1.70 or later of the iLO firmware. Integrity SSH/CLP support is
included in iLO2 firmware. All iLOs can be updated to this version or later.

NOTE: All current SSH connections to the intended target must be closed because iLO supports only two
simultaneous connections at one time. It is recommended that no connections exist.
NOTE: Automatic collection of iLO2 licenses is not supported.
Many products (mostly HP SIM plug-ins) save their license information in the License Manager database
only. License information for these products is already available for viewing and manipulation, and does
not need to be collected with the Collect Remote License Info feature. For these products, there are no
restrictions on the operating system of the CMS or selected system. Licensing information for all product
licenses recorded on remote systems is collected.
Collect Remote License Info collects licenses for products where the license resides on a remote target.
If that target is not a management processor, a Windows-only communication protocol is used. iLO information
requires SSH support to be included on HP SIM but has no operating system restrictions on the CMS or
target.
NOTE: The new iLO license collection and deployment is only supported on iLO2 devices.
NOTE: You do not have support or upgrade options by default. After July 9, 2007, all license keys are
included in one year of 24 x 7 Software Technical Support and Update Service. The License Manager
informs you which license keys are "support and update enabled" and which license keys require the
purchase of future updates and upgrades.
To use Collect Remote License Info:
1. Select DeployLicense Manager. The Product License Information table appears.
NOTE: The license manager screen is the single location for applying licenses to systems managed
by HP SIM that require licensing. This screen replaces the separate licensing screens for HP Insight
Control Environment, HP Insight Dynamics - VSE, and VSE Management Software that were present in
previous versions.
2. Click Collect Remote License Info. The License Collection Results table appears.
