HP StorageWorks LTO-4 Ultrium 1840 SCSI Tape Drives firmware revision B63D release notes (EH853-90939, June 2011)

New functionality
To improve drive reliability, an additional calibration may be done when loading
a tape to account for variations in media. Load times will increase a) to test whether
calibration is required and b) to perform calibration, if invoked.
Enhancements
Drive tuning change for better reading capability on some tapes written by non-HP
drives
Use of adjacent channel information during Spacing/Locating to prevent 5090/5092
Errors
Error rate counters are now cleared on a load instead of being cumulative since
power-on
Fixes
Fixed rare issue where a Write attribute command could cause datasets to be written
beyond the End of Wrap turnaround point (EOW)
Fixed an issue where deltas could be observed between the power-on times reported
in different L&TT logs and the drive logs
Fixed a rare issue that could cause very poor performance
Fixed an issue on the previous release (B62D, which was withdrawn from the web)
that could cause a Space/Locate command on an uninitialized tape to fail
Installation instructions
Use HP StorageWorks Library & Tape Tools (L&TT) to update the tape drive firmware.
You can download L&TT from http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools. Online help and
instructions are included with the utility.
NOTE: Once the download has started, do NOT power off the unit or interrupt the
firmware download process until the download is complete. Doing so could leave the
product in a non-usable state.
The firmware files can also be obtained on the external HP support website: http://
www.hp.com/support/storage. Select your product from the list and follow the instructions
from the Web page. NOTE: If you have trouble finding your product or firmware, use
the Product Search function from http//www.hp.com/support/downloads.
