Chapter 1 HP Value UPS Manager Introduction
1. HP Value UPS Manager Overview
HP Value UPS Manager is UPS monitoring software that supports either individual computer or
computers connected to a network (including LAN & WAN).
It is used to monitor the intelligent device and safeguard computer systems from unexpected crash
when power fails. With HP Value UPS Manager, users can monitor and configure the device on any
computer in the same LAN. With this software, one device can provide multiple computers in network with
security protection simultaneously, including shutting down system securely, saving application data and
shutting down the UPS when AC fails.
2. HP Value UPS Manager Structure
HP Value UPS Manager is made up of three components: Agent, Monitor and Tray Icon.
Agent is the core component of HP Value UPS Manager and runs as a system service in the background.
Agent communicates with the device, logs events, notifies users of events, arranges actions according to
the user's requirements and shuts down the computers when necessary.
Monitor is the user interface application of HP Value UPS Manager. Relying on Agent, it gathers real-time
information, status of the device, server information, allows the user adjust the parameters of the device. It
runs on any computer on the LAN or individual computer, and can manage the Agent.
Tray Icon is the management tool of HP Value UPS Manager. Only Windows has this component. It
appears in Status Area of System task bar. Tray Icon has two different icons for displaying current Agent
status. For the icons and the related status, refer to the following table 1-2-1:
Indicate the Agent is Stopped.
Indicate the Agent is Running.

If user right clicks the Tray icon, shortcut menus will popup. The menu items are listed below:
