Planning and Configuring Partition
Boot Settings
Each partition has its own collection of boot-related settings that specify
which hardware manages the boot process (the core cell), how the boot
process proceeds (automatically boot, or wait for BCH commands), and
which I/O device is selected for booting HP-UX.
You can configure boot settings at any time, but should do so when you
initially configure your Superdome hardware. Following this, you need
not reconfigure boot settings unless you want to change the partition’s
boot behavior, specify different primary, alternate, or high-availability
devices, or account for partition configuration changes.
The following sections give more details on configuring boot settings.

Configurable Boot Settings
You can configure each partition’s boot settings by using the partition’s
BCH interface or by running HP-UX utilities on the partition.
It also is possible to configure a remote (non-local) partition’s boot
settings by using the parmodify HP-UX command. See Chapter 4 for
details on using parmodify and other partition configuration issues.
You can configure the following boot settings for each partition.
Boot Device Paths—The boot device paths specify the primary boot
device (PRI boot path), the high-availability alternate device (HAA
boot path), and the alternate device (ALT boot path),
The PRI path specifies the default device booted by the BCH
interface’s BOOT command. The HAA path typically specifies a device
that is a mirror of the PRI device. The ALT path normally is a third,
alternate or backup bootable device.
Boot Options—Options include the auto-start option, and the boot
action associated with each boot path (PRI, ALT, and HAA).
