HP-UX Remote Access Services Administrator's Guide

1. Edit the /etc/ftpaccess file to include a path for the shutdown
message file in the entry shutdown <path>.
(You can also create the shutdown message file with the ftpshut
command in a later step.)
NOTE: If you do not specify the shutdown <path> entry in
the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file and try to execute the ftpshut
command, then the following error message is displayed:
No shutdown file defined in the ftpaccess file
2. Execute the /usr/bin/ftpshut command to create the
shutdown message file (with the path specified against the
shutdown entry in the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file) in the home
directory of real, anonymous, and virtual users. You must
manually create the shutdown message file in the guest users’
home directory.
The shutdown message file indicates the time of a planned
shutdown and notifies users of the same. This file can also specify
new connections to be denied, and current connections to be
dropped at a specific time before shutdown.
For more information, type man 1 ftpshut at the HP-UX
prompt.
ftprestart
This command removes all the shutdown message files from the real,
anonymous, and virtual user accounts. These message files are created
by the /usr/bin/ftpshut utility in the path specified by the
shutdown entry in the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file. For guest user
accounts, you must manually remove the message files.
You must use the /usr/bin/ftprestart command after the
ftpshut is executed.
For more information, type man 1 ftprestart at the HP-UX
prompt.
