hostname
Synopsis:
The hostname command assigns a name to the system.
Syntax:
hostname name
Command Modes:
Global-configuration mode.
Privilege Level:
Unrestricted read-write user.
Usage Guidelines:
The hostname is used as part of the contact information and as the CLI prompt. It is also the system
network-name. The assigned hostname may be used to establish DNS connections to the chassis. The name
you enter must adhere to standard IP networking rules.
This command changes the CLI prompt. The new hostname is applied immediately, however, the prompt does
not change until you change modes. For example, the prompt changes when you exit the global-configuration
mode.
Examples:
HP-IB(config)# hostname samplename
HP-IB(config)# exit
samplename# config
Defaults:
This command has no defaults.
