Modifying a PVC Using SAM

NOTE Modifying a PVC disrupts any trafﬁc currently using it.

The Modify option provided by SAM allows you to easily change the

conﬁguration details of a PVC. SAM then automatically deletes the

existing PVC and adds a PVC with the new conﬁguration. Note that the

list of already deﬁned PVCs is dynamic: when no PVCs are using a

deﬁnition, it no longer appears in the list. Also, if you try to add a PVC

that requires a new trafﬁc proﬁle when all proﬁles are taken, an error

message is displayed.

To modify a PVC in SAM, follow these steps:

Step 1. Log in as root.

Step 2. Type sam to start SAM.

Step 3. Select “Networking and Communications”.

Step 4. Select “Network Interface Cards”.

Step 5. Highlight the ATM adapter that you want to conﬁgure, and then choose

Configure from the “Actions” menu.

This opens the “Conﬁgure ATM Card” window, which lists all conﬁgured

interfaces for the ATM adapter.

Step 6. Highlight the IP interface (ip

or cip

xxx

) that you want to conﬁgure

and select Configure PVCs... from the “Actions” menu.

Step 7. Highlight the PVC that you want to modify and select the Modify...

button.

The PVC’s current trafﬁc parameter conﬁguration is displayed.

Step 8. If required, modify the PVC’s VPI/VCI numbers.

Step 9. If required, modify the destination ATM address.

Step 10. If required, modify the PVC’s trafﬁc parameters (use the SAM online

help if you need more information about any of the parameters).

Step 11. Select the OK button when you are ﬁnished.
