ATM Configuration and Troubleshooting Guide

Configuring EMS High Availability over ATM
Types of Failures Managed by EMS HA-ATM
Chapter 698
EMS HA-ATM:
Failure of one of the ATM adapters in the primary system.
Failure of one of the ATM links connected to the ATM adapters in
the primary system.
Failure of one of the ATM switches connected to the ATM
adapters in the primary system.
EMS HA-ATM in conjunction with MC/ServiceGuard provides remote
recovery for the following types of failures:
System failure.
Failure of all adapters in a system.
Failure of all the ATM switches or cables connected to the adapters
in the primary system.
Failures Managed by Local Recovery
As mentioned above, local recovery manages failures of LAN Emulation
services, a single ATM adapter, a single ATM link, and a single ATM
switch. Each of these failures is described next.
LAN Emulation Services Failure
Your ELAN interface configuration allows you to define secondary LAN
Emulation Services to eliminate single points of failure within an ELAN,
providing High Availability solutions. You can configure a secondary
LECS and secondary LES/BUS, which automatically take over if any of
the primary LAN Emulation services fail.
LAN Emulation Services for an emulated LAN are provided by the
following:
A LAN Emulation Configuration Server (LECS), which provides
configuration information and the ATM address of the LAN
Emulation Server for an ELAN.
A LAN Emulation Server (LES), which maintains MAC-to-ATM
address mappings for all end systems on an ELAN and manages
address resolution.
