NOTE Although the ATM software allows you to conﬁgure only one LECS,

we do not recommend this, because a failure of the LECS will

prevent operation of the part of your ATM network that relies on

that LECS.

Conﬁguring Secondary LAN Emulation Services

Conﬁguring secondary LAN Emulation Services means conﬁguring a

secondary LECS and a secondary LES/BUS pair. The primary LECS

contains the ELAN-to-LES mapping for the primary ELAN, and the

secondary LECS contains the ELAN-to-LES mapping for the secondary

ELAN. To conﬁgure a secondary LECS and secondary ELAN (secondary

LES and BUS), follow these steps:

Step 1. Log in as root.

Step 2. Type sam to start SAM.

Step 3. Select “Networking and Communications”.

Step 4. Select “Network Interface Cards”.

Step 5. Highlight the ATM adapter that has the ELAN interface you want to

conﬁgure secondary LAN Emulation Services for, and then choose

Configure from the “Actions” menu.

This opens the “Conﬁgure ATM Card” window, which lists all conﬁgured

interfaces for the ATM adapter.

Step 6. Highlight the ELAN interface you want to conﬁgure the secondary LAN

Emulation Services for, and select Modify Interface from the “Actions”

menu.

This opens the “Modify ELAN interface” window.

Step 7. Specify the ATM address of the secondary LECS. Note that the ATM

address of the secondary LECS must be different from the ATM address

of the primary LECS.

Step 8. Specify the LEC Selector.
