Before You Start Logging and Tracing
NetTL daemons receive data from the network subsystems, format it,
and write it to trace and log files that contain messages for all network
subsystems running on the machine. The NetTL daemon must be
running before you can use tracing or logging.
The value of the NETTL in the file /etc/rc.config.d/nettl determines
if the NetTL daemon is started at system start-up. The variable is set to
1 by default (NETTL=1), which starts nettl automatically. With this
setting, disaster and error messages are logged by default. See “Logging
Options” on page 291 for more information about how to control the type
of error messages logged.
NetTL is configured automatically for ATM when you install the
software. You can configure NetTL forATM manually, as described in the
following section.
Checking the Status of NetTL
To check that the nettl daemon is running, use this command:
nettl -ss
The output should look like this (the ATM information is shown in bold
in this example):
