ATM Configuration and Troubleshooting Guide

Replacing a Defective Adapter
General Information
Chapter 11 307
General Information
The ATM address of an HP ATM adapter is generated by using the
hard-coded MAC address of the adapter as the End System Identifier. If
you have to change an adapter, this can have consequences for the
configuration of the rest of the ATM adapters on the Logical IP Subnet
(LIS).
NOTE You do not need to save any information before replacing a defective
adapter.
The ATM and PVC configuration of the old adapter is automatically used
for the new adapter. For example, for ATM adapter atm0, configuration
information such as the adapter’s IP address, subnet mask, and ATM
ARP Client or Server designation is contained in the file
/etc/atm/atm_0/ipa0 (HP-UX 10.20) or /etc/atm/atm_0/cip100
(HP-UX 11.X).
If the new adapter is installed in the same slot as the previous adapter,
the card instance number (for example, 0) is the same and the ATM
configuration information in the file /etc/atm/atm_0/ipa0 (HP-UX
10.20) or /etc/atm/atm_0/cip100 (HP-UX 11.X) is used for the adapter.
Information about PVCs andtraffic parameter configuration is contained
in the file /etc/atm/atm_pvc_config.
Never manually edit any of the above files. These files are automatically
modified when you configure the ATM adapter through SAM.
