HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning HP Fabric Clustering System Installation Prerequisites The latest switch firmware and is available online at: http://support.hp.com 1. Select Software and Driver downloads. 2. Enter your product name. 3. Click the double arrow. Refer to the section “Configuration, Image, and Log Files” section of the HP Fabric Clustering System HP-UX Administrator's Guide.
HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning Install HP Fabric Clustering System Adapters Install HP Fabric Clustering System Adapters CAUTION Adapters contain electronic components that can easily be damaged by small amounts of electricity. To avoid damage, follow these guidelines: • Store adapters in their anti-static plastic bags until installation. • Work in a static-free area, if possible. • Handle adapters by the edges only. Do not touch electronic components or electrical traces.
HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning Install HP Fabric Clustering System Software On-Line Addition and Replacement Operations (OL*) On-Line Addition and Replacement (OL*) of HP Fabric adapters is supported on HP Fabric Clustering System version B.11.23.02 or newer with a couple of limitations related to replacing an HCA, see below. Replacing an HCA CAUTION Do Not use an Attention Button to REPLACE an HP Fabric Clustering System HCA.
HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning Install HP Fabric Clustering System Software • Look for “Download Software” and click on the depot that corresponds to your HP-UX operating system version to download the drivers, utilities, and manpages for your adapter. • In the “Documents” column next to the “Download Software” column, click on “Installation Instructions” to download instructions for using the Software Distributor tool to install the drivers, utilities, and manpages for the adapter.
HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning Install HP Fabric Clustering System Switches Install HP Fabric Clustering System Switches This section describes how to install the switch in a standard HP rack. If the switch is already installed in a rack, proceed to “Remove Shipping Sleeve” on page 14. Requirements In addition to the accessories provided with the switch, you should have: • T-10 and T-25 Torx screwdrivers. • A second person for the installation.
HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning Install HP Fabric Clustering System Switches Step 2. To install the switch with the bezel to the front of the rack, install with the flange at the front of the switch. You can also mount the flange toward the back if you want to mount the switch backward in the rack such that the service-side is forward. If the intake for the fans on the switch faces the hot air output of other equipment, the switch could endure thermal issues.
HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning Install HP Fabric Clustering System Switches Step 5. Fit the sliding rails over the fixed rails with the flanges facing outward until the flanges meet the rack. Figure 1-10 Fit Sliding Rail over Fixed Rail Step 6. Attach the rails to the rack, both sides as shown in Figure 1-11. CAUTION Keep switch supported until rail is attached to the rack. Figure 1-11 Attach Sliding Rail to Rack Step 7. Securely attach all rails to the rack.
HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning Attach Cable Guides & Cables Remove Support Bracket (if installed) If switches are pre-installed in a rack, there will be a Support Bracket under each switch. This should be removed after the rack is in its final location. The space should be filled with additional equipment or a 1U filler panel.
HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning Attach Cable Guides & Cables Cable Routing and Bend Limits Pre-form the cables to the bent condition prior to installation if possible. This reduces any undue strain at the plug/receptacle connection at the time of installation. Handling or installing an InfiniBand technology cable in a manner that results in a tight bend radius or excessive twisting can result in immediate or latent failure of the cable.
HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning Internet Protocol over InfiniBand (IPoIB) Attach cables to switches and HCAs assuring that the latch is engaged on each connection. Pull or push evenly across the width of the lanyard to latch or unlatch the plug connector. Pulling abruptly on the lanyard, or pulling on only one side of the lanyard will prevent the latch/unlatch operation from occurring, and could damage or break the lanyard.
HP-UX Integrity Installation Overview & Planning Internet Protocol over InfiniBand (IPoIB) Enable the IPoIB Interface To enable the IPoIB interface. Syntax: ifconfig [address] [netmask] up Example: ifconfig lan9000 192.32.32.255 up There is no direct output from this command. To confirm that the interface is UP, run the ifconfig lan9000 command again. Output Example: lan9000: flags=843 inet 192.32.32.255 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 192.32.32.

ProLiant Linux Installation Overview & Planning Install HP Fabric Clustering System Switches Requirements In addition to the accessories provided with the switch, you should have: • T-10 and T-25 Torx screwdrivers. • A second person for the installation. Installing the switch with only one person is very difficult. Rack Mount Preparation Prior to mounting the switch in a rack: 1. Check the slot in the rack for 1U clearance. 2. Open the box, remove the switch, rail brackets, and parts bag. 3.

ProLiant Linux Installation Overview & Planning Configuring Basic Connectivity Installing the Rack Support Bracket (if required) The HP 24-port 4x Fabric Copper Switch ships with a rack support bracket kit. Installation of the bracket is required when the switch is mounted in a rack without any equipment mounted directly below it, and the rack will be transported.
ProLiant Linux Installation Overview & Planning Attach Cables 3. Configure an IP address for the Ethernet management port. It is necessary to configure connectivity to the out-of-box Ethernet management port in order to use Telnet or the GUI. The switch Ethernet management port is not pre-configured when it ships from the factory. a. When the switch has completed booting, press Enter several times to display the CLI prompt. Login: b. Enter the default user name super and password super.
ProLiant Linux Installation Overview & Planning Attach Cables Bundles of cables should not be “tie-wrapped” with a tie-gun. These fasteners create pinch points on the cables that can crush the dielectric material and create impedance discontinuities. Rather, cables should be bundled using velcro strapping or other less compressive bundling techniques. Cable Routing and Bend Limits Pre-form the cables to the bent condition prior to installation if possible.
