Installing AD279A PCI MUX 64-Port Adapter
CAUTION Adapters contain electronic components that can easily be damaged by small amounts of
electricity. To avoid damage, follow these guidelines:
Store adapters in their anti-static plastic bags until installation.
Work in a static-free area, if possible.
Handle adapters by the edges only. Do not touch electronic components or electrical traces.
Use the disposable grounding wrist strap provided with each adapter. Follow the
instructions provided with the grounding strap.
Use a suitable ground. It can be any exposed metal surface on the computer chassis.
WARNING Before installing the hardware, ensure that the system’s power supply is completely
disconnected. Failure to comply with instruction may result in an electrical shock hazard as
well as possible damage to the adapter or your system.
To install the AD279A PCI MUX 64-port adapter, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Exit all applications, log out of the current session, shut down the operating system, switch off the
computer, and disconnect the power cord.
Step 2. Remove the system’s cover.
Step 3. Locate an available PCI slot in your system, and remove the slot plate.
Step 4. Insert the adapter into the slot, and screw the endplate to the computer chassis. The endplate must
be screwed into the computer chassis to be compliant with part 15 of FCC rules.
Step 5. Replace the system’s cover.
Step 6. Attach one end of the EBI cable to the connector on the adapter, and the other end to the port
module.

This section describes how to install the AD279A PCI MUX 64-port software.
Step 1. Log in to the system as superuser.
Step 2. The drivers, utilities, and manpage for the AD279A PCI MUX 64-port adapter are available at the
HP Software Depot. To locate the software at the HP Software Depot:
