Primary-Admin vPars Security (vPars A.03.03)
Terms and Definitions
Chapter 8
219
Because this command affects another virtual partition (winona2), if the local virtual
partition winona1 is a secondary-admin virtual partition, the command will not be
successful.
primary-admin virtual partition list
This is the list of virtual partitions that are currently set as primary virtual partitions. If a
virtual partition is in this list or added to this list, it becomes a primary virtual partition. If
a virtual partition is deleted from this list, it becomes a secondary virtual partition. If a
virtual partition is not in this list, it is considered a secondary virtual partition. How to add
or delete virtual partitions from this list is discussed below.
Whenever the security mode is set to ON, the primary-admin virtual partition list will be
empty.
security mode
When this mode is set to ON, only primary-admin virtual partitions are allowed to
successfully execute vPars commands that affect other partitions. For example, in the
command
winona1# vparmodify -p winona2 -a cpu::1
This command checks whether the local virtual partition (winona1) is a primary-admin
virtual partition or if the target partition is the local partition. If either condition is yes, the
command is executed. If not, the command is denied. How to set the mode is discussed
below.
By default, the security mode is OFF.
security password
From the Monitor prompt, when setting the security mode to ON, you will be prompted to
set a security password.
From the HP-UX shell, if a superuser attempts to add or delete a virtual partition from the
primary-admin virtual partition list, the superuser will be prompted for the security
password that was set.
When the security mode is OFF, there is no security password.
