HP Storage Management for Oracle 5.0 Release Notes, HP-UX 11i v3, First Edition, May 2008

NOTE: The pfile of the primary instance is saved at the time of snapshot creation. If you
attempt to clone the database using that snapshot you will be using the saved pfile and
not the current file. Therefore, you must create a new snapshot so that the clone will use an
updated pfile.
For more information on special characters that must be either placed within quotes or
escaped when using a pfile, see the Oracle Reference Manual. In some cases, Oracle will
process a pfile correctly at startup even if a parameter value contains unquoted special
characters. However, the pfile parser used by HP Storage Management for Oracle enforces
the pfile specification mentioned in the Oracle Reference Manual.
Problem
When attempting to view a snapplan log with the Web GUI, the following error message is
displayed.
Unable to load operation
Workaround
Use the VEA Java GUI or run the dbed_vmchecksnap -o list command to view the
snapplan logs.
Problem
With Oracle 10g and above, Database FlashSnap clones do not support
DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DESTINATION as the sole mandatory archive log destination. This
issue is not detected by FlashSnap validation with the dbed_vmchecksnap command or
by the snapshot command dbed_vmsnap. However, recovery will fail when you attempt
to clone a database using the snapshot, and the following error message is displayed in the
log file:
ORA-01195: online backup of file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
Workaround
Define a mandatory log archive destination that is not DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DESTINATION
and set the ARCHIVELOG_DEST parameter of the snapplan to this value.
Problem
If a database is cloned using Flashnap with the -o mount option or the -o mountdb option
and a recovery is not performed on the cloned database, then the reverse re-synchronization
operation fails when the following command is executed:
/opt/VRTSdbed/bin/dbed_vmsnap -S $ORACLE_SID -f snapplan -o
reverse_resync_begin
The following error message is displayed:
SFORA dbed_vmsnap ERROR V-81-5682 The current status umount_end
does not allow for the option reverse_resync_begin.
Workaround
No workaround exists for this problem.
Problem
The dbdst_admin -o addclass command adds a new class for the database. A database
can have any number of classes. The Maxclass or Minclass parameter defines the
maximum and minimum classes allowed for a filesystem (MVFS). However, these limits
are not enforced.
Workaround
No workaround exists for this problem.
