Installing and Managing HP-UX on Boot Disks Greater than 2TB with LVM Layout

3
* This new higher limit is supported only from LVM volume group version 2.2
onwards.
This new boot capability is not available on HP 9000 (PA RISC) platforms and with VxVM and whole disk
(no volume manager) boot layouts.
Warning
The attempted use of disks, physical volumes, or logical volumes with sizes higher
than supported limits as HP-UX boot devices may result in errors or failures.
Note :LVM already supports data disks of size up to 16 TB for 2.x volume group version. Run lvmadm(1M)
command with the -t option to display data disk limits.
Installing HP-UX on boot disks > 2 TB
This section discusses specific requirements in cold installation of HP-UX on boot disks > 2 TB using Ignite-
UX software. Refer to Ignite-UX Admin Guide to learn more about HP-UX installation process.
STEP 1: If you are using Ignite-UX server based installation, update your Ignite-UX software on server to
March 2013 or later.
The Ignite-UX product corresponding to the OE/AR version cited against a specific disk size range (see
Table 1) is necessary when a boot with disk capacity range is attempted. For example, the Ignite-UX
product from March 2013 (or later version) is required when install or recovery is attempted on a disk of
size >2 TB. Ignite-UX is available in standard SD (Software Distributor) depot format from OE and AR
media, and from the HP Software Depot Website to download.
Best Practice
Do not remove the Ignite-UX software to install the new version. This will cause
some files to be reset, including the INDEX file, and you will lose any
customizations. Instead perform the upgrade.
STEP 2: Begin your installation in the same way as installation on smaller disks are done.
STEP 3: Choose LVM Volume Group version 2.2 for installation.
Navigate to ‘File system’ tab ‘Additional Tasks’ ‘Group parameters’.
Select “LVM Version” as “2.2”.
Warning
If you leave the LVM Volume Group as default value of 1.0, LVM caps the usable
area of the boot disk to 2 TB and the remaining space will be unused. To utilize
