HP-UX WLM Oracle Database Toolkit: Providing Database Metrics to WLM
Overview of how the metrics work with WLM
Chapter 2 27
Overview of how the metrics work with WLM
Figure 2-1 illustrates how the ODBTK works with your databases to get
metrics to WLM. First, the toolkit utility wlmoradc uses SQL statements
to interact with the database through SQL*Plus to get the database
metrics. Once wlmoradc has the resulting data, ODBTK may calculate a
running average with the smooth toolkit utility or perform no action on
the data. ODBTK then sends the metrics to WLM, which adjusts the
CPU resources for the instance so that it better meets its SLOs.
NOTE As of WLM A.02.02, HP recommends that you use the cntl_smooth
WLM keyword instead of the smooth tool. For information on
cntl_smooth, see wlmconf(4).
This diagram ignores the fact that other database instances and
applications may be on the system competing for resources. For a
diagram showing the interaction of several applications, see the HP-UX
Workload Manager User’s Guide.
