HP CIFS Server 3.0g Release Notes version A.02.03.01

Changes in HP CIFS Server A.02.03.01
This release contains the following changes:
Configuration Parameter Changes
The following is a list of configuration parameter changes in HP CIFS Server A.02.03.01:
The change notify timeout parameter in smb.conf has added share level capability
to the existing global level capability.
The HP CIFS Server checks directory changes once every change notify timeout
seconds and notifies the CIFS clients when the share status has changed. Starting with HP
CIFS Server A.02.03.01, the change notify feature can be configured on a per-share basis or
global basis. To disable this feature, set this parameter to 0.
The default value of the winbind cache time parameter in smb.conf is changed from
60 to 300 (in seconds). This parameter specifies the number of seconds the winbind daemon,
winbindd, will cache user and group information before querying a CIFS server again.
Security = SERVER is being Deprecated
The security= SERVER parameter in smb.conf is being deprecated. HP CIFS Server A.02.03.01
is the last release that this configuration is supported. Consider changing the security option
in smb.conf to security = DOMAIN or security = ADS.
The smbldap Management Tools Are No Longer Maintained by HP CIFS
Server
HP no longer maintains the LDAP management scripts smbldap-tools. These scripts are
included with the HP CIFS Server product and remain available in the
/opt/samba/LDAP3/smbldap-tools directory. The latest versions of these smbldap-tools
scripts are maintained by IDEALX Open Source Security Software and are available for download
at the following web site:
http://samba.idealx.org
You can use LDAP directory tools (such as ldapmodify, ldapdelete and ldapsearch)
provided by the LDAP-UX Integration product and several HP CIFS management tools to manage
user, group or other data in an HP Netscape/Red Hat Directory Server database. The HP CIFS
management tools include the smbpasswd, net and pdbedit tools.
For more information about these management tools, refer to the "Tool Reference” chapter in
the HP CIFS Server Administrator's Guide.
