HP Virtual Connect Manager Version 1.31 Release Notes and Compatibility Matrix

New features
Virtual Connect version 1.31 features include the following:
• Mapping of server VLAN tags (shared server links) enables sharing of server links on multiple Virtual
Connect networks. The administrator defines a shared link set that identifies mappings between
VLAN tagged packets on a link and internal VC networks. Two options are provided: Tunnel VLAN
tags or Map VLAN tags.
• Private Network mode for VC Networks provides additional security using functionality similar to
private VLANs. If a network is marked 'private,' servers on that network can only communicate
through uplinks to the data center.
• The Managed Server Serial Numbers and UUID feature adds support for Virtual Serial Numbers and
UUID within a Virtual Connect server profile. These identifiers then move with the profile across
server hardware.
CAUTION: Many management tools rely on these identifiers to remain stable for any given
hardware platform. If they do not remain stable, serious issues might result, such as loss of
software licenses. Certain firmware and agent updates are required to support virtual
identifiers. For more information on virtual identifiers, see the individual product
documentation.
• The Strong Password option enforces configurable password length, and requires three out of four
special characters (upper, lower, numeric, and alpha-numeric).
• The configurable SSL requirement allows or disallows weak SSL encryption (browser and SOAP <
128 encryption).
• LDAP enhancements of domain name login, test screen to validate keys prior to usage, and
validation across nested groups.
• Uplink failover enhancements to eliminate unnecessary fail-over between modules providing
equivalent paths to VC network uplinks. Another side effect of this change is to allow the SmartLink
support to detect loss of all uplinks on a network and drop the server links in approximately 4
seconds.
• CLI enhancements to support all VC v1.20 features, plus command line batching, line script
processing, output filtering, show all, CLI reset of VCM, and save support information command
options.
• Support for double-dense BL2x220c G5 server blades (half-height with two physical server blades)
• Support for multiple Fibre Channel fabrics with uplink port sets. Additional enhancements include
dynamic login distribution and failover using defined uplink port sets.
• Number of NPIV logins per server port is now 12.
• Fibre Channel boot parameter settings for Integrity BL860c and BL870c server blades through
firmware EFI style boot information within VC profiles.
• Fibre Channel SNMP enhancement to support up to five trap address and support for SNMP trap
community strings up to 12 characters
