Determine the Virtual Connect firmware version
The Virtual Connect Manager GUI can assist in determining the version of firmware installed on the modules in the domain.
Use the Help Menu to select the About HP Virtual Connect Manager link.
Upgrade the Virtual Connect Firmware (if required)
To migrate from Virtual Connect 1/10 to 10/10D, a firmware update is required. The VC 1/10 modules must be running a
supported version of VC firmware. Firmware version 3.30 or higher is required to proceed in order to preserve minimal
domain configuration information. You must upgrade to VC firmware v3.61 to achieve the full migration benefits and
preserve the complete configuration. The ‘SHOW CONFIG’ CLI command is necessary to capture a deployable script for
migration purposes. This command is only available in VC firmware versions 3.30 or higher. If you wish to preserve the MAC
and WWN addresses from the existing domain configuration, VC firmware v3.61 is required. The “-includepoolinfo” option
introduced in VC v3.61 supports full output of all domain and profile settings, including MACs and WWNs. If the domain is
already running v3.30 – v3.60, you are not required to upgrade firmware unless you want to preserve domain and profile
address settings. To capture the settings proceed to “Capturing Existing VC 1/10 Domain Configuration” below.
NOTE: This document only provides direction on preserving MAC and WWN addresses for migrations using the VC v3.61
firmware.
For domains running VC firmware lower than v3.30 you are required to update the firmware to version 3.61. HP strongly
recommends using this specific firmware release during the migration process to avoid additional support issues associated
with legacy VC 1/10 modules. Use the Virtual Connect Support Utility (VCSU) v1.9.0 or later to update the firmware. The links
to VCSU and firmware are provided below.
