HP BladeSystem c-Class Virtual Connect Support Utility Version 1.5.2 Release Notes Abstract This document provides release information for the HP BladeSystem c-Class Virtual Connect Support Utility Version 1.5.2, which remotely upgrades the VC-Enet and VC-FC module firmware in HP BladeSystem c-Class c3000 and c7000 Enclosures. This document is for the person who installs, administers, and troubleshoots servers and storage systems.

Important notes and recommendations • The utility must be run on a client outside of the VC domain being updated. If you run VCSU on a server blade inside the domain that is being updated, VCSU might lose network connectivity to the VC Ethernet and Fibre Channel modules, causing unexpected firmware update failures. IMPORTANT: Do not run VCSU on a server blade inside the VC domain being updated. • For upgrading to VC 3.
New features The HP BladeSystem c-Class Virtual Connect Support Utility Version 1.5.2 has no additional new features. The HP BladeSystem c-Class Virtual Connect Support Utility Version 1.5.1 has no additional new features. The HP BladeSystem c-Class Virtual Connect Support Utility Version 1.5.0 contains the following new features: • Support Primary Bay Independence – VCM Primary module is no longer restricted to be in Bay 1 and/or Bay 2. • Enhanced platform support: o Support HP-UX (11.23 and 11.
General requirements • • A supported operating system must be installed on the client: o Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 1 or 2) o Microsoft Windows Vista o Windows Server 2003, 2008 o HP-UX 11.23 and 11.31 o Linux (Red Hat 4, Red Hat 5, SLES 10, SLES 11) The utility must be run on a client outside of the VC domain being updated.
• Only one instance of the VC Support Utility accessing a single enclosure can be run on a single client at one time. • During firmware update operations, the modules are unavailable for use. Any attempt to reset or remove the modules during the update process could result in a corrupted firmware image. In addition, do not reset the Onboard Administrator of the target enclosure or update its firmware while VC modules are being updated.
Resolved issues The following issues that existed in previous versions of Virtual Connect Support Utility have been resolved in Virtual Connect Support Utility Version 1.5.2: • Updated the VC-FC module firmware upgrade for VC 4Gb FC, VC 8Gb 20-Port FC, and VC 8Gb 24-Port FC modules to allow firewalls in the environment as long as both Primary and Backup VC-Enet modules are healthy. • Resolved an issue where VC-FC modules failed to complete a firmware upgrade in certain large configurations.
Known issues • When running Virtual Connect Support Utility in Interactive Mode, do not use quotation marks around the firmware package path even if the path has spaces. Only use quotation marks around the firmware package path when specifying the package location on the command line with the “-l” command-line parameter.
