Configuration of the VC SAN Fabric
The configuration of the VC Domain will follow one of the scenarios described in this cookbook.
After you have configured the VC Domain with two or more VC SAN Fabrics (Fabric-Attach), configure the Nexus
switches.
Configuration of the Nexus switches
Enabling the FC protocol on Nexus ports
Before using FC capabilities, make sure that a correct Storage Protocol Services license is installed. If the license is
not found, the software loads the FC plugins with a grace period of 180 days. If the license is found, all Fibre Channel
and FCoE related CLI are available.
To enable Fibre Channel on the switch (including FCoE); enter the following commands from the CLI:
switch# configure terminal
switch(config) # feature fcoe
Note: Cisco SAN port channels that are useful to bond multiple Fibre Channel interfaces together for both
redundancy and increased aggregate throughput are not supported with Virtual Connect.
Configuring Fibre Channel Ports
When using expansion modules with native FC ports, there is no specific configuration. Interfaces fc2/1, fc2/2, etc.
are automatically presented.
Configuring Unified Ports
By default, the Unified ports are Ethernet ports but you can change the port mode to native Fibre Channel on any
port on the Cisco Nexus 55xx switch.
Note: Fibre Channel ports cannot be enabled randomly; they must be configured in a specific order, starting from the
last Unified port of the module to the first one (1/32 > 1/31 > … > 1/1).
If you do not follow this order, the system displays the following error:
ERROR: FC range should end on last port of the module
