Uplink Port connection issues
There are several issues that can lead to a VC Fabric uplink ports “NOT-LOGGED-IN” status:
Faulty cable, transceiver failure, wrong or incompatible SFP used (port populated with an SFP module that does
not match the usage assigned to the port, such as a Fibre Channel SFP connected to a port designated for
Ethernet network traffic).
Upstream switch does not support NPIV or NPIV is not enabled (See Appendix C, D, and E for more information
about configuring NPIV on FC switches).
Using an unsupported configuration, see ‘Supported VC SAN fabric configuration’.
- Uplink ports that are members of the same Fabric-Attach SAN Fabric have been connected to different SAN
switches belonging to a different SAN Fabric.
- Uplink ports have been connected directly to a Storage Disk Array when using a Fabric-Attach VC Fabric.
- Uplink ports member of a Direct-Attach fabric have been connected to a non-supported Storage Disk Array.
The Direct-Attach fabric ports have been connected to un-configured 3PAR ports.
You are connected to a Brocade SAN switch at 8Gb and you haven’t configured the fill word of an 8G FC port, see
Appendix C.
The Fibre Channel SFP transceiver brand is usually not the reason for an unlinked connectivity issue because many
FC SFPs are allowed to interoperate with VC-FC modules and FlexFabric modules regardless of whether they are HP
or third party branded. In VC 3.30 and later, FlexFabric modules detect whether SFPs are from a supported list of HP
part numbers as documented in the VC Quickspecs. If the SFPs are not one of the HP part numbers, such as A7446B,
AJ715A, AJ716A, AJ718A, these SFPs are reported as “uncertified”. If a customer has an issue with these pluggable
modules, HP support recommends using only officially supported models.
Some useful information that can help to troubleshoot connectivity issues is displayed in the SAN Fabrics or
Interconnect Bays / Module VCM pages:
Note: Port status information appears on several screens throughout the GUI.
