Adding an FCoE volume in a multi-hop FCoE environment
We are showing in this section how we can add a new volume when Virtual Connect is using FCoE to connect to an
upstream infrastructure. We will describe the different steps that are required with both HP 5900 and Cisco Nexus 5xxx
switches in a VMware vSphere and Microsoft Windows Server environment.
Identifying MAC and WWPN addresses of the FCoE adapter
From VCM GUI or CLI
The very first step when adding a volume to a server in a VC/FCoE environment is to identify the MAC and WWPN
addresses of the FCoE ports.
The first place where you can find these addresses is the VCM interface (GUI or CLI).
With VCM GUI
Open the Virtual Connect profile assigned to the server. Record the WWPN and MAC addresses located in the FCoE HBA
connections section:
With VCM CLI
Open a VCM CLI session, enter the following command and record the WWPN and MAC addresses located in the FCoE
HBA connections section:
->show profile ESX-FCoE-Emulex
