Virtual Connect FlexFabric-20/40 F8 Uplink Port Mappings
It is important to note how the external uplink ports on the FlexFabric-20/40 F8 module are configured. The graphic
below outlines the type and speed each port can be configured as:
Flexible Ports X1 – X8: Can be configured as 1/10 Gb Ethernet or Fibre Channel
FC speeds supported = 2Gb, 4Gb or 8Gb using 4Gb or 8Gb FC SFP modules, refer to the FlexFabric-20/40 F8 Quick
Spec for a list of supported SFP+ transceivers and DAC
Ports Q1 – Q4: Can be configured as only 10Gb or 40Gb Ethernet (each port can do 1x40, 1x10 or 4x10)
Ports X5/X6 and X7/X8: Are paired and can only be configured to carry same traffic types (either FC or Ethernet)
Note: Even though the Virtual Connect FlexFabric-20/40 F8 module supports Stacking, stacking only applies to
Ethernet traffic. FC uplinks cannot be consolidated, as it is not possible to stack the FC ports.

Note: Since VC 4.01, the Virtual Connect FlexFabric SAN uplinks can be connected to an upstream DCB port with
Dual-hop FCoE support. For more information about FCoE support, see Dual-Hop FCoE with HP Virtual Connect
modules Cookbook in the Related Documentation section.
