Virtual Connect does not have the capability to perform version checking of the mezzanine card firmware. Validate this information through server POST for mezzanine support utilities. Server blades and mezzanine cards that do not meet the required firmware versions do not accept Virtual Connect-assigned parameters such as MACs and WWNs properly, and therefore maintain factory defaults.
Important notes IMPORTANT: If you have FCoE connections configured through a mezzanine card, see the "Known issues (on page 16)" section for a workaround required to avoid a temporary FCoE outage during firmware update. • Before upgrading VC firmware to version 3.30, be sure that the VCEM version supports your needs. For more information, see "Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager support.
Some properties displayed in a data grid are editable. An editable indicator provides feedback on which items can be edited inside a data grid. The editable indicator underlines a property when you move the cursor over the property. If the property is underlined, left-click the property to edit. • After an enclosure import, the Virtual Connect CLI shows the Stacking Links Connections Status as "Failed" until all modules have been initialized.
devices. In the event that the default setting or Mode 3 does not work with a particular device, contact your switch vendor for further assistance.
New features The VC 3.30 release includes the following new features: • Command Line Interface Telemetry—Provides improved reporting and metrics from the VC domain and individual VC-Enet modules. New metrics include CPU load, memory utilization, discover information, port statistics, L2 MAC address table, IGMP groups, link aggregation information, VC networks information, interfaces information, throughput information, and module hostname control.
This limitation is documented in the QuickSpecs and the HP Virtual Connect for c-Class BladeSystem Setup and Installation Guide. • Improved integration with HP System Insight Manager. The HP VC 8Gb 20-Port FC Module firmware is now correctly returning several important elements of the HP MIBs as part of the System Insight Manager discovery.
Resolved issues The following issues have been resolved in the VC 3.30 release: • Resolved an issue where the web server was not being restarted when changes were made to the certificate/SSL strength. • Resolved an issue when frequent state change notifications would cause VCM GUI slowness, for example, if a server was in a constant PXE boot cycle. • Resolved an issue where a Virtual Connect Domain IP Address became inaccessible after a VC recovery.
Known issues New issues Issue Upgrading Virtual Connect firmware from v3.xx to v3.30 might cause a loss of the VC domain configuration. During the activation phase, the firmware update process might terminate abnormally and leave the domain in an unconfigured state, resulting in an outage. Only VC domains running firmware v3.xx, upgrading to v3.30, and fitting certain criteria are potentially affected by this issue.
Issue Copying a shared uplink set that has no associated networks fails in both the GUI and CLI. In the GUI, you must refresh the page to complete the action. In the CLI, you must log out and then log back in to recover. Issue The CLI copy uplinkset command does not allow copying of Private Networks within the shared uplink set. Issue When a HP VC 8Gb 24-Port FC module is connected to a Brocade 8510 (16Gb) switch, the link between the FC module and the 8510 can only negotiate to 4Gb instead of 8Gb.
HP VC 8 Gb 24-Port FC Module does not return a proper value for the cpqHoGUID element of the CPHSHOST MIB during HP System Insight Control discovery, which causes discovery to complete with errors. Issue A fabric previously set to Manual Login Re-Distribution might appear as set to Automatic Re-Distribution when you attempt to edit the fabric on the Edit SAN Fabric screen. Workaround To ensure that your fabric is set to Automatic Re-Distribution on the Edit SAN Fabric screen: 1.
• In Virtual Connect Manager 3.10 or later, when a VC domain is configured with a primary module installed in a bay other than bays 1 or 2, you must have both a primary module and a backup module. If the primary module is installed in a bay other than bay 1 or bay 2, and no backup module is installed, running the Virtual Connect Support Utility to perform a VC firmware upgrade results in an unconfigured domain after the upgrade and requires you to restore the domain configuration from a backup file.
[HKLM\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Intern et Settings] "MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:6 By default, this registry value does not exist and Internet Explorer 7 defaults to the value of 2. Increasing the value to 6 resolves the hanging issue. Internet Explorer 8 defaults to a value of 6, so this issue does not occur. The Firefox web browser may also default to a higher value.
Firmware update Two options are available for VC firmware update: • HP BladeSystem c-Class Virtual Connect Support Utility (VCSU) For this release of HP Virtual Connect, the minimum firmware requirement for VCSU is version 1.6.0. HP recommends that you always use the latest version available. For more information about VCSU, see the HP BladeSystem c-Class Virtual Connect Support Utility release notes on the HP website (http://www.hp.com/go/bladesystem/documentation).
Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager support • VCEM v6.3 u1 provides full compatibility and support for VC firmware v2.1x, v2.3x, v3.0x, v3.1x, and v3.30. IMPORTANT: Before upgrading VC firmware to version 3.30, select the proper approach: • VCEM 6.3u3 or later supports the new features in VC 3.30. • VCEM 6.1 through 6.3 allows VC 3.30 or later to work in "compatibility mode," as long as new VC features are not enabled beyond what the respective version of VCEM supports. This allows you to pick up 3.
