1 Updating the VMA SAN Gateway software The VMA SAN Gateway runs a special purpose Operating Environment (OE), which when deployed on the DL380 server creates a storage controller for connection of the VMA-series Memory Arrays, VMA3205 and VMA3210. The VMA SAN Gateway provides Fibre Channel target port access to connected VMA Arrays. The special purpose OE that runs on the VMA SAN Gateway is updated as a full image update versus updating or patching parts of the OE.
2 Using the gateway CLI and a USB flash drive This chapter describes how to update the VMA SAN Gateway OE using the gateway CLI and a USB flash drive. Checking the current OE version running on the VMA SAN Gateway 1. To check your current VMA SAN Gateway OE software version, select one of the following options: • • 2. 3. Connect to the gateway CLI using a terminal emulator utility, and one of the following: ◦ Use a null modem cable to connect to the serial access port on the back of the gateway.
Downloading the VMA SAN Gateway update image (.img file) from the HP Support page 1. Navigate to the HP Support Download Drivers, Software & Firmware web page for the VMA SAN Gateway or use the following URL: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/swdHome/?sp4ts.oid=5263731 2. At the support page, click Cross operating system (BIOS, Firmware, Diagnostics, etc.) for operating system independent support downloads.
3. Click DOWNLOAD for the appropriate VMA SAN Gateway OE Update Image version that you want to download and save the download locally to the root directory of a portable USB Flash drive connected to your laptop or server. Note that saving the VMA SAN Gateway update download and extracting the contents to the root directory on the USB flash drive enables the gateway CLI image fetch command to discover the Gateway OE update binary file easily. 3. To upload the VMA SAN Gateway OE update image file onto the gateway as shown in the following example, press enter. The new gateway OE update image has been uploaded to the gateway. • To verify that the new gateway OE update image has been uploaded to the gateway, issue the gateway CLI show images command. WARNING! If uploading a VMA SAN Gateway update image from a USB device, remove the USB device from the gateway USB port at this time.
Performing a Gateway OE Update operation on the gateway 1. To update the VMA SAN Gateway with the new uploaded gateway OE update image, issue the upgrade command as follows: # cluster upgrade <.img filename> immediate Where <.img filename> is the name of the OE update file as shown with the show images command. You will be asked whether you really want to update the gateway now.
3. Wait a few minutes and reconnect to the network CLI session. Verifying the new OE image is active after the gateway reboots Once the gateway has completed rebooting, verify that the new gateway OE image is active. To display the currently active OE version, issue the show version command. The VMA SAN Gateway has been successfully updated with the gateway OE image version. This completes the process for updating the VMA SAN Gateway using the CLI method.
3 Using a web interface and a web server This chapter describes the process used for updating the VMA SAN Gateway OE using the gateway web interface and using a web server. Checking the current OE version running on the VMA SAN Gateway 1. 2. 3. To check your current VMA SAN Gateway OE software version, connect to the gateway web interface using a supported web browser.
4. After logging in to the web interface, the task categories appear on the left portion of the interface. Click Administration. The Cluster: Administration window appears. The Cluster: Administration window shows the currently running VMA SAN Gateway OE software version along with other installed images on the gateway. After you enter the URL for the gateway OE update image, click UPGRADE and the gateway OE update image is copied from the web server to the gateway and then the gateway OE is updated from the image. Note that an immediate reboot of the gateway occurs as part of this process. Any access to the gateway or access to connected VMA Arrays through the gateway is disrupted while the gateway reboots. 3. 14 Click OK to proceed. When the gateway OE update is complete, the gateway reboots. Network connectivity is lost while the gateway is rebooting. 4. To log in again to the gateway web interface after the gateway has rebooted, click the Click here link shown below in the Upgrade Complete window. Verifying the new OE image is active after the gateway reboots After the VMA SAN Gateway reboots as a result of the gateway OE update, log in to the gateway again.
The VMA SAN Gateway has been successfully updated with the gateway OE image version using the gateway web interface process. This completes the process for updating the VMA SAN Gateway using the VMA SAN Gateway web interface method.
