Antivirus quarantines and software snapshots
The quarantine utility has the following limitations when used with snapshots.
Limitation 1: When the following sequence of events occurs:
A virus file is created inside the snap root.
A snapshot is taken.
The original file is renamed or moved to another path.
The original file is read.
The quarantine utility cannot locate the snapshot because the link was formed with the new filename
assigned after the snapshot was taken.
Limitation 2: When the following sequence of events occurs:
A virus file is created inside the snap root.
A snapshot is taken.
The original file is renamed or moved to another path.
The snapshot file is read.
The quarantine utility cannot track the original file because the link was not created with its name.
That file cannot be listed, reset, moved, or deleted by the quarantine utility.
Limitation 3: When the following sequence of events occurs:
A virus file is created inside the snap root.
The original file is read.
A snapshot is taken.
The original file is renamed or moved to another path.
The quarantine utility displays both the snapshot name (which still has the original name), and the
new filename, although they are same file.
