6.3 HP StoreAll Storage File System User Guide (TA768-96093, June 2013)

Because of the way StoreAll replication works it is important to understand how applications using
the system will modify files to avoid unexpectedly large amounts of data being replicated.
Applications typically behave in one of the following ways:
The application rarely changes files, so most files are replicated only once.
The application completely replaces the old file when saving changes. Some applications
create a local temporary copy of a file in memory or on disk while you are working on it. The
application then overwrites the old version with the new version when saving changes. Because
the whole file is new, it is a candidate for replication after updates, regardless of the replication
technology used.
The application updates ranges of blocks in the file or appends data to the file. This will cause
a file to be replicated regardless of how much or how little data was changed.
NOTE: These steps are not required when configuring intracluster replication.
Register source and destination clusters. The source and target clusters of a remote replication
configuration must be registered with each other before remote replication tasks can be
created.
Create a target export. This step identifies the target file system and directory for replication
and associates it with the source cluster. Before replication can take place, you must create
a mapping between the source cluster and the target export that receives the replicated data.
This mapping ensures that only the specified source cluster can write to the target export.
Identify server assignments to use for remote replication. Select the servers and corresponding
NICs to handle replication requests, or use the default assignments. The default server
assignment is to use all servers that have the file system mounted.
NOTE: Do not add or change files on the target system outside of a replication operation. Doing
this can prevent replication from working properly.

This procedure must be run from the target cluster, and is not required or applicable for intracluster
replication.
Select the file system on the GUI, and then select Remote Replication Exports from the lower
Navigator. On the Remote Replication Exports bottom panel, select Add. The Create Remote
Replication Export dialog box allows you to specify the target export for the replication. The mount
point of the file system is displayed as the default export path. You can add a directory to the
target export.
