6.5 HP StoreAll OS User Guide

2 Creating and mounting file systems
This chapter describes how to create file systems and mount or unmount them.
Creating a file system
You can create a file system using the New Filesystem Wizard provided with the StoreAll
Management Console, or you can use CLI commands. The New Filesystem Wizard also allows
you to create an NFS export or an SMB share for the file system.
Checklist for creating a file system
Before you create a file system, be aware of the following:
Provision storage using the HP SPT storage provisioning utility.
Ensure that any parity initialization has completed. To view the status of parity installation:
From a server that is connected to storage enclosures that contain the hard drives that will be
used for file system creation, enter the following command at the root prompt:
hpsp_spt -ps
In the output that displays, verify that 0 volumes have parity initialization running; his ensures
that all parity initialization has completed. If parity initialization has not completed before you
create a file system, be aware that creation could take a long time to complete and may fail.
The following is an example of the command output:
[root@1b55-13s9 ~]# hpsp_spt -ps

# Name WWN Progress Status Elapsed-Time

0 volumes have parity initialization process running. Parity
Initialization might have been completed successfully for all
volumes.
If you use the wizard to create an extremely large file system, it is possible that the browser
or wizard will time out before the file system has been completely created. Verify that the
default browser timeout is greater that the File Creation wizard timeout of 3 hours. For example,
with Internet Explorer, the registry user key "ReceiveTimeout" residing at the following registry
location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Internet Settings should be set to a decimal value of 10800000. After 3 hours, the
wizard will stop and one of the following messages will appear:
File system creation is taking longer than expected. Continue to
monitor the status of the file system creation using the Filesystems
GUI panel or the ibrix_fs i command. The creation is complete when
the file system is mounted. (Do not use another new FileSystem Wizard
until this operation is complete.)
