At this stage, you can optionally reboot the server to activate the updated firmware or wait for
other firmware updates, if any, and perform a reboot once for them all.
Storage controller
CAUTION: To avoid failure, ensure the following prerequisites are met before performing a
firmware update operation on the storage controller:
• High availability (if present) is disabled for this node.
• All data services, including file system services, are stopped.
• Do not cycle power or restart devices during the firmware update.
When upgrading the storage controllers in the 8800 couplet using the command to upgrade the
storage controller only, complete the upgrade as follows:
1. Fail over to node 2. See “Failing a server over manually” in the Administrator Guide for your
platform.
2. On node 1, run the -f -c Storage_Ctlr command as shown in the following example.

# hpsp_fmt -f -c Storage_Ctlr

3. Reboot node 1 and wait for it to completely power up.
4. Fail over to node 1. See “Failing a server over manually” in the Administrator Guide for your
platform.
5. Reboot node 2, which will automatically copy the firmware to controllers on the node. Wait
for the node to completely power up.
6. Fail back to node 2. See “Failing back a server” in the Administrator Guide for your platform.
If you have to downgrade the firmware on the storage controller, complete the following steps:
1. On node 1, run hpsp_fmt –f –c Storage_Ctlr.
