HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 3.1

3. Do the following to determine whether or not you have to modify the default role assignments:
a. See Appendix F (page 137) for a description of the default role assignments based on system size.
Read about the special considerations regarding the default role assignments to determine if the
role assignments are suitable for your environment. If you do not modify the role assignments,
the system will be configured with the default assignments.
b. If you are configuring services for improved availability, read the information in Table 1-2
(page 29) if you need more information about role assignments.
Ensure that the nodes you have associated into availability sets are assigned with the appropriate
roles so that service failover can occur.
4. Use the Modify Nodes and Analyze options on the cluster_config command-line menu to
adjust the role assignments and create an external Ethernet connection on any node, if required. See
Appendix G (page 143) for information about how to use the menu options.
5. When you are satisfied with the role assignments, enter the letter p to apply the configuration to the
system:
[L]ist Nodes, [M]odify Nodes, [A]nalyze, [H]elp, [P]roceed, [Q]uit: p
Do you want to apply your changes to the cluster configuration? [y/n] y
6. Do one of the following when this prompt is displayed:
[S]ervices Config, [P]roceed, [Q]uit:
Enter the letter s to perform customized services configuration. This option is intended for
experienced XC administrators who want to customize role services. Intervention like this is
typically not required for HP XC systems. HP recommends that you enter p to continue with the
system configuration process and proceed to “Task 10: Respond to Configuration Questions”.
NOTE: If you are an experienced HP XC administrator, see “Customize Service and Client
Configurations” (page 147) for more information about customizing the services configuration.
Enter the letter p to continue with the system configuration process.
When the system configuration process begins, the configuration and management database is
not consistent and complete again until after cluster_config processing is complete. Therefore,
do not press Ctrl+c during this time.
Enter the letter q to exit from the system configuration process. The following prompt is displayed
to give you the option to save your responses to the configuration and management database:
Do you want to apply your changes to the cluster configuration? [y/n]
y
Proceed to “Task 10: Respond to Configuration Questions” to respond to the remainder of the system
configuration questions.
3.11 Task 10: Respond to Configuration Questions
This section shows output from the cluster_config utility. Depending upon how you want the system
configured, respond to the following prompts as services are being configured on the head node and client
nodes. If you configured availability sets, you are prompted to specify how you want to configure each
service for improved availability.
