HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 4.0

Install the software now before the system is configured so that the software is transparently
propagated to all nodes during the initial image synchronization.
This section describes some of the HP software products that you can integrate into an HP XC
system. Your computing environment might require some of these products depending upon
how you plan to configure the HP XC environment. You must purchase and license these products
from HP.
See the product documentation for product-specific installation instructions.

5.7.1 HP Scalable File Share
The HP XC System Software enables Lustre
1
client services for high-performance and
high-availability file I/O. These Lustre client services require the separate installation of Lustre
client software, which is provided by the HP Scalable File Share (SFS) product. You can configure
SFS to operate with an HP XC system to provide scalable storage that is easy to use and easy to
administer.
In addition to providing scalable storage, locating the clusterwide /hptc_cluster file system
on an SFS server enables fail over of that file system. If you want to enable fail over of this file
system, install the SFS client software now so that you can mount the file system on the SFS
server instead of installing it on a local disk.
IMPORTANT: To determine the SFS client and server versions that are compatible with HP XC
Version 4.0, see the HP XC System Software Release Notes or contact your HP SFS representative.
SFS documentation is available at the following website:

5.7.1.1 Obtaining SFS Client Kits
SFS client kits are not bundled with the HP XC Version 4.0 distribution medium.
To obtain an SFS client kit for XC, you must download the appropriate kit from the HP IT Resource
Center (ITRC) website.
A login account is required to access the ITRC website. New users of ITRC can register and get
a login account for free.
To access the ITRC and download the SFS client kits:
1. Create a temporary patch download directory on the head node. You can name this temporary
directory anything you want; this procedure creates a directory called /home/patches:
# mkdir /home/patches
# cd /home/patches/sfs
IMPORTANT: Although HP has no restrictions about where you download patches, do not
choose a directory that is included in the golden image because you do not want to distribute
the actual RPM files to all client nodes. The HP XC System Software Administration Guide
provides a list of directories that are included in the golden image; do not save patches in
these directories.
The example uses /home because it is not included in the golden image.
2. Open a web browser to the ITRC website:
