6 Software Upgrades
This chapter contains notes about upgrading the HP XC System Software from a previous release
to this release.
Installation release notes described in Chapter 4 (page 17) and system configuration release
notes described in Chapter 5 (page 19) also apply when you upgrade the HP XC System Software
from a previous release to this release. Therefore, when performing an upgrade, make sure you
also read and follow the instructions in those chapters.
6.1 Upgrade Requires a Minimum of 2 GB Free Space in the root Partition
Before you begin an upgrade to Version 4.0, ensure that the / partition (root) has a minimum of
2 GB free space.
If it is installed, you can remove the openoffice.org package before the upgrade to free up
space in the root partition. openoffice.org is not supported in XC Version 4.0.
6.2 Remove Older Versions of hp-OpenIPMI
During the upgrade process, after you complete the task to “Upgrade Linux and HP XC RPMs",
you must remove older versions of hp-Openipmi:
# rpm -e --noscripts hp-OpenIPMI
If you do not remove older versions of hp-OpenIPMI, hpasm does not start because it will be
referring to the older version.
6.3 Benign Message Displayed By preupgradesys Command
You can safely ignore the following error that is displayed by the preupgradesys command
when you are upgrading from HP XC Version 3.2.1 with SFS to HP XC Version 4.0:

This RPM is not removed by /usr/sbin/ofed_uninstall.sh but is removed at a later stage
by preupgradesys.
6.4 Upgrade Process Installs the OFED InfiniBand Software Stack by Default
HP XC System Software Version 4.0 installs and uses the Voltaire OFED InfiniBand software
stack by default. Previous HP XC releases installed the Voltaire InfiniBand software stack.
