HP P9000 Business Copy for Mainframe Systems User Guide (AV400-96386, October 2011)

The specification of the At-Time Split function using Continuous Access Journal Z and Business
Copy Z follows:
Business Continuity Manager can be used to perform Split processing. Remote Web Console
and PPRC commands cannot be used to perform Split processing.
Split processing can be performed on Business Copy Z pairs belonging to Business Copy Z
consistency group.
One Split processing can be applied to one Business Copy Z consistency group.
When you apply Split processing, you can select Steady Split or Quick Split.
Up to three Split processing can be applied to one journal group (the equivalent of three
Business Copy Z consistency groups).
Up to three T-VOLs of Business Copy Z can be paired to the same S-VOL of the Business Copy
Z pair. Therefore, up to three generations of backup data can be created.
The process for using the At-Time Split function with Continuous Access Journal Z and Business
Copy Z follows. This process backs up data at the specified time without changing the status of
Continuous Access Journal Z pairs to Suspend.
1. Use Business Continuity Manager to register the Split time.
2. The restore journal data of Continuous Access Journal Z before the Split time is restored in the
S-VOL of Continuous Access Journal Z (that is, the S-VOL of Business Copy Z).
3. When Continuous Access Journal Z detects journal data newer than the Split time in the restore
journal, the restore processing gets suspended temporarily. Execute Split processing on the
Business Copy Z pair that is linked to S-VOL of Continuous Access Journal Z.
4. After Business Copy Z finishes the Split processing, Continuous Access Journal Z resumes the
suspended restore processing on restore journal.
Important considerations
Consider the following when you use the At-Time Split function with Continuous Access Journal Z
and Business Copy Z:
Specify Business Copy Z pairs for all S-VOLs of Continuous Access Journal Z pairs in the
Business Continuity Manager copy group that is used for the At-Time Split function. If Business
Copy Z pairs are specified for only some of the Continuous Access Journal Z S-VOLs, the Split
time may not be registered using Business Continuity Manager. For details about Business
Continuity Manager copy groups, see the HP P9000 for Business Continuity Manager Software
User Guide.
Continuous Access Journal Z S-VOLs in Business Continuity Manager copy groups used for
the At-Time Split function must belong to the Business Copy Z consistency group containing
the Business Copy Z pairs that are linked. If the Continuous Access Journal Z S-VOLs and the
Business Copy Z pairs belong to different consistency groups, consistency of backup is not
maintained. Also, when Continuous Access Journal Z pairs are registered in multiple journal
groups (see Figure 5 (page 21)), you cannot create consistent backup in Business Copy Z
T-VOLs. If you want to create consistent backup in Business Copy Z T-VOLs, ensure that only
one journal group contains Continuous Access Journal Z pairs.
