HP P9000 for Compatible FlashCopy Mirroring User Guide (AV400-96388, October 2011)
2 Preparing for Compatible FlashCopy operations
This chapter describes the requirements and preparations you should know before the Compatible
FlashCopy operations.
Requirements of Compatible FlashCopy
You can establish a Compatible FlashCopy relationship for simplex volumes, and for non-simplex
BC Z S-VOLs or T-VOLs.
The following table describes other requirements on using Compatible FlashCopy.

The following table lists the emulation types supported by Compatible FlashCopy and the condition
for the combination of S-VOL and T-VOL.

If the emulation type is started with 3390, you can specify the volumes of different emulation types
for S-VOL and T-VOL. However, you cannot establish a relationship using a 3380-3 volume and
a volume whose emulation type is started with 3390. In case of 3380-3 volume, you must specify
3380-3 volumes both for S-VOL and T-VOL.
The specified extent must be within the range of the user cylinders in each volume.
In Compatible FlashCopy SE, emulation type of T-VOL is only 3390-A (TSE-VOL).
Calculating the maximum number of Compatible FlashCopy relationships
Compatible FlashCopy can establish up to 1,048,575 relationships. However, Compatible
FlashCopy may not be able to establish up to 1,048,575 relationships depending on the number
of resources required for the copy operation that vary according to the attributes (emulation type,
capacity, size of the data that is copied, position of the extent) of the volumes, and extents used
for establishing the relationships.
