HP P9000 for Compatible FlashCopy Mirroring User Guide (AV400-96388, October 2011)

You can use the Compatible FlashCopy Information dialog box to check the number of remaining
resources that are currently available. Check the Compatible FlashCopy Information dialog box
when you create a Compatible FlashCopy relationship.
The following software programs share the resources used for copy operation.
Business Copy Z
Business Copy
Snapshot
Auto LUN
The resources used by Business Copy Z, Business Copy, Snapshot, and Auto LUN cannot be used
for Compatible FlashCopy. The resources that remain, when you exclude the resources used by
Business Copy Z, Business Copy, Snapshot, and Auto LUN from the total resources, are available
resources for Compatible FlashCopy. See the following manuals for details about the calculation
of the resources used by each software program.

Establishing relationships by volume copying
Use the following expression to calculate the total number of the resources to be used per
relationship:
Total number of the differential tables per relationship = ceil(((X) +
(Y)) × 15 ÷ (Z))
(X): The number of the cylinders of the volume.
(Y): The number of the control cylinders. (See the following table.)
(Z): The number of the slots that can be managed by a differential table.
20,448
ceil: Round up the number to the nearest whole number.
The following table lists the number of the control cylinders for each emulation type.
Table 18 Number of control cylinders for each emulation type
Number of the control cylindersEmulation type
73380-3
63390-3
253390-9
233390-L
533390-M
The number of resources to be used per a relationship is the total number of the resources of the
copy source and copy target. For example, in case of a volume which emulation type is 3390-3,
and when provided that the number of the cylinders of the divided volume is 3,339 ((X) in the
expression that calculates the total number of the resource) the calculation of the total number of
the differential table is as follows:
Copy source: (3,339 + 6) × 15 ÷ (639 × 32) = ceil(2.45379) = 3
Copy target: (3,339 + 6) × 15 ÷ (639 × 32) = ceil(2.45379)= 3
