Using Disaster Recovery

Floppies

Insert the disaster recovery floppy disk when the machine is booting up. Follow the

instructions on screen.

If there are problems, what are the symptoms?

The installation process begins but crashes.

The computer doesn't have a floppy drive.

The appliance doesn't have a floppy drive.

Creating Disaster Recovery CD-ROMs

The data on the CD-ROM(s) is not

complete.

This could be due to two reasons.

The restore may be in two stages. The disaster recovery disk contains enough

data to get the system back on its feet. The rest of the restore then proceeds

across the network.

The multi-disk backup may have failed whilst it was writing the media. This

could happen because of an error on the appliance, or more likely, because

the process timed out. If the disks are not swapped over within a 1 hour

window, the task is canceled. This is to prevent the appliance from neglecting

its backup obligations.

The current CD is taking a very long time

to write.

The standard time to write a CD to full capacity, at x2 speed, is 60 minutes. If it has

taken 20 minutes longer than this, check the drive. If there is still activity, wait 10

more minutes. Then check the Status page of the disaster recovery CD-ROM wizard.

If this shows an issue then cancel the operation. There may have been a problem with

the disk. Try to write the data onto a new set of disks. If there are continual problem,

then contact HP
