What was the nature of the "disaster" that prompted this recovery? It may be that the
same error may still be affecting the system. If there was a hard disk failure, has the
hard disk been replaced?
The computer doesn't have a CD drive.
Disaster recovery is not possible without a CD-ROM drive. The idea is that
information from the appliance can be written to a set of bootable CD-ROMs and this
will be used to recreate the data on the hard disk of the protected computer. If the
computer doesn't have a CD-ROM drive, then data cannot be transferred.
If the client computer is to be disaster recovery enabled, then make sure a CD-ROM
is fitted. IDE CD-ROM drives make disaster recovery easier than SCSI disks. They
can be bought from buy.hp.com , search under "Max IDE CD-ROM".
The computer can recover saved data, but the machine must manually install the
operating system, configure the networking, install the AutoBackup Agent using the
"Re-install from existing backup account" option, and then perform a system rollback
with the "restore all files" option selected.
Creating Disaster Recovery floppies
The disk hasn't been written to.
When downloading the DR floppy image from the web administration page, either
run the program without saving it, or save it onto the hard disk. Do not save it to the
floppy disk.
If saved onto the hard disk, find the program and run it with a non write-protected
floppy inserted in the floppy drive on the administrators computer.
This will write the disaster recovery image to the floppy disk.
Using Disaster Recovery floppies
The installation process begins but
crashes.
Check the floppy disk to see if it is write protected. Make sure the disk is double
sided and high density. Try replacing the disk with a new double sided double
density disk.
If the protected computer uses a SCSI CD-ROM drive, then the floppy disk needs to
