Introduction

In the winter of 2009, Microsoft released Windows 7 Beta. This is the replacement for

Windows Vista, although both versions will be available for a period of time. Windows

Vista was launched in late 2006 with preinstall availability in January of 2007.

Purpose

This white paper provides instructions on how to install Microsoft® Windows 7 Beta on

select HP Business notebooks. Windows 7 Beta should be used for evaluation only. Pre-

release operating systems are not supported on HP business notebooks. The following

guidelines provide installation procedures independent of the currently installed operating

system.

. i. Upgrades from Vista are not recommended with Windows 7 Beta Connect to the Internet and download the latest drivers and enhancements from Microsoft Windows Update. a. See Driver Tables for additional information. Driver availability As of late February 2009, drivers for key subsystems are available with Windows 7 Beta or from Windows Update, including video, audio, modem, NIC, wireless LAN, Bluetooth, flash media reader, TPM module, accelerometer, webcams and pointing devices.

Appendix A: Known Anomalies This is a partial list of anomalies observed during Windows 7 testing. Docking / external video switching Anomaly: Some models lock up when docking/undocking or switching video output. Description: Listed models will exhibit anomalous behavior when an external display device is connected directly to the system or through a docking base. Affected Systems: 8530w and 8730w Resolution: Shut down before attaching to or detaching external display devices.

Appendix B: Questions and Answers Will my 2710p run Windows 7? Yes. Supported 2007 and 2008 models with at least 1 GB of RAM (2 GB recommended) and adequate available drive space will run Windows 7. Will my 2710p work with the Aero user interface? Yes. Windows 7 display drivers are available for all supported 2007 and 2008 UMA and discrete models either with Windows 7 Beta or from Windows Update.
