Before removing the processor, follow these steps:
1. Turn o the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is o or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 37), and then remove the following components:
a. Service cover (see Service cover on page 38)
b. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 39)
c. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 41)
d. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 50)
e. Top cover (see Top cover on page 58)
f. Fan/heat sink assembly (see Fan/heat sink assembly on page 74)
Remove the processor:
1. Use a Torx8 screw driver (1) to turn the processor locking screw one-half turn counterclockwise (2), until
you hear a click.
