PROBLEM:
The SMM GUI is hanging at 20%...
SOLUTION:
Possible Reason #1:
Older versions of the SMM GUI have problems recognizing the TSIQ1 file. When the
SMM GUI tries to connect to the silo, SMM reports the TSIQ1 file and this causes the
SMM GUI to hang at 20%. This can be corrected by purging the TSIQ1 file from your
SMM subvolume.
Possible Reason #2:
The SMM software was not cycled after an IPL of the silo. This can be corrected by
cycling the SMM software [shutting the GUI down first] after the IPL of the silo has
finished and the silo is available.
Possible Reason #3:
The SMM processes were stopped while the SMM GUI was still up. This could cause
the TCP/IP port to go into a TCP-WAIT or TCP-FIN state. This can be corrected by
waiting for the port to free up [usually after about 5 minutes] or by changing the port
number in the configuration of the SMM program and the SMM GUI. This will have to
be done on the Server and Clients both. Proper shutdown of all SMM GUI's before
cycling of the SMM software is the best cure for this situation.
Possible Reason #4:
It could be a security issue on the workstation. If you are running Windows NT or
Windows 2000, you need to have at least Power User rights.

PROBLEM:
The SMM GUI took my tape drive(s) out of service...
SOLUTION:
SMM will only take tape drives out of service after the tape library reports an error on
the tape drive, either due to a hardware error on the tape drive or the tape media itself.
This is caused by the tape drive timing out, usually during a dismount. Contact your
local support engineer for assistance in troubleshooting the hardware error.
