Event Management Service (EMS)
A Distributed Systems Management (DSM) product that is used to provide event
collection, event logging, and event distribution facilities. EMS provides different event
descriptions for interactive and programmatic interfaces, lets an operator or an
application select specific event-message data, and allows for flexible distribution of
event messages within a system or network.
event message
The text intended for a system operator that describes a change in some condition in the
system or network, whether minor or serious. The change of condition is called an event.
Events can be operational errors, notifications of limits exceeded, requests for actions
needed, and so forth. Event Management Service (EMS) formatted events can be viewed
by the OSM Event Viewer.
Expand network
The NonStop Kernel operating system network that extends the concept of fault-tolerant
operation to networks of geographically distributed NonStop S-series systems. If the
network is properly designed, communication paths are constantly available even if a
single line failure or component failure occurs.
external fabric
The set of interconnections and components that provide intersystem communication
between nodes within a ServerNet cluster. For fault-tolerance, there are two identical
external fabrics, referred to as X and Y fabrics.
See also fabric and internal fabric.
F
fabric
A complex set of interconnections through which there can be multiple (and, to the user,
unknown) paths from point to point. The term fabric is used to refer to the X or Y portion
of the ServerNet system area network (ServerNet SAN); for example, the X fabric.
See also internal fabric and external fabric.
fan
A component that circulates air into an enclosure to help maintain optimal temperature.
Each system enclosure contains two fans, and each fan is connected to one processor
multifunction (PMF) CRU.
