incident report (IR)
A report sent by the OSM software on the server to the OSM Notification Director on the
OSM system console. Incident reports notify you of changes that could directly affect the
availability of resources, changes in hardware configuration, and changes in software
configuration.
If authorized, the OSM Notification Director forwards incident reports to your service
provider. The three types of incident reports are problem incident reports, software
configuration reports, and periodic incident reports.
indicator lights
Two lights on a CRU or FRU that indicate the status of the unit as follows:
The green indicator light is lit when the unit has proper power applied.
The red or amber indicator light is lit when the unit is not working properly.
During startup, this light can indicate that the unit is not yet functioning.

initial discovery
Discovery of a NonStop S-series server with which the or the OSM Service Connection
has had no prior contact and for which it has no locally saved information.

internal fabric
The set of interconnections within a server. For fault-tolerance, there are two identical
internal fabrics, referred to as X and Y fabrics.

internet protocol (IP)
A data communications protocol that handles the routing of data through a network,
which typically consists of many different subnetworks. IP routes data between source
and destination IP addresses.
I/O controller
The hardware logic that controls computer I/O operations for a particular set of devices,
such as disks, tapes, terminals, or communications lines.
