It includes information about configuring SCSI ID’s for the 5157/5157 ACL, operating the 5157/5157 ACL drives, and configuring online using SCF. 5157/5157 ACL S-Series DLT Subsystems Installation/Users Guide 1.3 Product Overview 1.3.1 Product Overview for the Himalya S-Series Cabinetry The dimensions for the Himalya S-series Cabinetry base enclosure are 37.6” (95.5 cm) x 22” (56 cm) x 32” (82 cm). The Himalya S-series stackable enclosure dimensions are 71.7” (182.1 cm) x 22” (56 cm) x 32” (82 cm). The cabinets can be purchased as a base enclosure or a stackable enclosure. The cabinets will come without a door so drives will be easily accessed.
5157/5157 ACL S-Series DLT Subsystems Installation/Users Guide 1.3.2 Product Overview for the 5157/5157 ACL Drives The DLT 5157/5157 ACL tape drives are a highperformance, high-capacity, streaming cartridge tape product designed for use on midrange and high-end computing systems. Using data compression and compaction, the DLT 5157/5157 ACL tape drive features a formatted capacity of 70.0 GB and a sustained user data transfer rate of 10.0 MB/s*.
5157/5157 ACL S-Series DLT Subsystems Installation/Users Guide Compression can be selected on the drive front panel or from the host by using the SCSI MODE SELECT command. The DLT 5157/5157 ACL tape drives also accept the DLTtape IIIxt cartridge. When this cartridge is used the amount of data stored on the tape can be up to 15.0 GB non-compressed or 30.0 GB compressed. The actual amount of data stored in the compression mode is dependent on the data type.
5157/5157 ACL S-Series DLT Subsystems Installation/Users Guide 1.8 Compatibility Compaq is committed to maintaining compatibility within the DLT family of tape drives. DLT 5157/5157 ACL tape products are the third generation of the tape products which can read and write all previous formats back to the DLT 260 drive, DLT 600 drive, DLT 2000 drive, DLT 2000xt drive, and DLT 4000 drive. The DLT 5157/5157 ACL tape drives comply with the ANSI standard for SCSI-2.
5157/5157 ACL S-Series DLT Subsystems Installation/Users Guide 1.10 Embedded Diagnostics The DLT 5157/5157 ACL tape drives have embedded diagnostics software that tells the user when head cleaning is required, indicates diagnostics results, and tells the operating status. The drives have embedded data logging of errors for failure analysis.

With one person on each side of the subsystem, slowly guide it off the pallet (refer to Figure 2-8). The platforms are on casters, allowing it to be moved easily down the ramp and into position.

Failure to report damaged equipment immediately can result in a loss of claim 2.4 Suggested S-series Cabinetry Configuration Options Two S-series cabinets may be stacked on each other, as seen in Figure 2-9. If two cabinets are stacked on each other, the bottom shelf in the bottom cabinet must be left empty.

5157/5157 ACL S-Series DLT Subsystems Installation/Users Guide 2.5 S-series Cabinet Configuration Hazards Do not stack an S-series Server on an S-series Cabinet. The server is heavier than the cabinet, and stacking it on top of the cabinet causes the unit to be unstable (as in Figure 2-11).

The bottom shelf will remain empty. The base cabinet is able to store up to two 5157 ACL drives or four 5157 drives. The cabinet can also store a combination of the two. Figures 2-13, 2-14 and 2-15 show examples of the configurations.

The shelves can have the same drive configurations as the base cabinet. There can be up to three 5157 ACL’s or six 5157’s in the stackable cabinet. There can also be a combination of 5157’s and 5157 ACL’s. The bottom shelf of the base cabinet should still remain empty.

Take the four covers off the corner slots on the base cabinet. Lift the stackable cabinet up over the base and line up the four legs with the open slots. Place the four legs in each of the slots (as shown in Figure 2-17). Make sure the unit is secure.

Figure 2-18 is a picture of the Rear Cover on the S-series Cabinetry. The purpose of the cover is to protect the Backend Board (BEB) and the fiber cabling.

Follow these guidelines when configuring the 5157 tape drive for use on the system: If the 5157 tape drives are being installed as… Then . . . Connect one end of the SCSI cable to the rightmost SCSI signal connector on the 5157 rear panel. 2. Secure the cable with the hand tightening screws. 3. Connect the other end of the SCSI cable to the SCSI connector on the system, or for daisy-chained configurations, connect the other end of the SCSI cable to the next SCSI device.

Using DLTtape III tape the density defaults to 10.0 GB noncompressed. The only selections for this cartridge are 2.6 GB, 6.0 GB, 10.0 GB with compression off, or 20.0 GB with compression on. Using DLTtape IIIxt the density defaults to 15.0 GB noncompressed or 30.0 GB compressed. Using the DLTtape IV tape density can be selected by using any of the following: 1.

The indicator shows the tape’s prerecorded density, such as 2.6 GB or 6.0 GB. 4. The drive’s control panel can be used at various times, not just after loading a tape. Density selection is inactive until the Write from BOT command is issued. The controller remembers the density selection state until one of the following occurs: • Change the density selection • Unload the tape 4.2.2.

5157/5157 ACL S-Series Subsystems Installation/ Users Guide 4.5.1 Cartridge Write-Protect Switch The tape cartridge has a write-protect switch to prevent accidental erasure of data. Before loading the tape cartridge into the drive, position the write-protect switch on the front of the cartridge (Figure 4-6). • Left, so the cartridge is write-protected • Right, so the cartridge is write-enabled When the switch is moved to the left, a small orange rectangle is visible.

One end of the cable has a 68 -pin connector with latch-clip flanges that connects to the uncapped SCSI port at the rear of the tape drive CRU. The other end of the cable has a 68-pin connector with thumbscrews that connects to the SCSI passthrough terminator on the PMF CRU differential SCSI port.

A module is a subset of a group, and it is usually contained in a system enclosure. A module contains one or more slots. In a Himalaya S-Series server, there is exactly one module in a group. 7.3.2.2.4 Slot A slot is a labeled physical space in an enclosure into which a CRU or field-replaceable unit (FRU) can be installed.

Some software might show the location of a CRU using abbreviations for group, module, and slot. SCF allows the operator to add, delete, and change the attributes of a tape drive. SCF can be run from any terminal attached to the system after the operator is logged on.

On the next drive, the left most port is terminated instead of being connected to the 50-pin SCSI port. Figure 7-11 illustrates how the 68-pin SCSI ports are connected.
